For the first time in decades the SEC may be surpassed as the nation's top conference

If the Big 10/20 adds any combination of Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Florida State, North Carolina or Clemson to get to 20 teams. Additionally I could see Notre Dame potentially giving up independent status and engaging with the Big 10.
I'm not a big fan of these megaconferences but it's a dog eat dog world and the Big 10/20 could be positioned for financial dominance if they play their cards right.
The hypothetical new Big 10/20 would have a coast to coast footprint encompassing a huge population.
Is bigger, better? That's debatable but in terms of stability and economic influence it would appear to be the case.
I assume the SEC (at least privately) isn't sitting on their hands watching the Big 10 potentially become the new king of the hill.
If the SEC were to expand, who would add the most value?

If the Big Whatever adds Oregon/Washington/Stanford/Cal, and their goal is to eventually corral Notre Dame, then all of ND's traditional rivals other than Navy will be under one roof: USC, Michigan State, Purdue, and Stanford.
I hope we don't start going past 16, but it seems inevitable.

1. North Carolina--this is our Notre Dame
2. Virginia
3. Florida State
4. Clemson
If the Big 10 takes all of those PAC schools, I would presume they wouldn't have much appetite for ACC additions.

The TV deals mean nothing until the rest of the country buys the best coaches and recruits the best players.
It could happen.

I don't think the SEC expands unless Notre Dame wants to join the SEC. I don't think any other team adds enough money to contracts with TV companies to make adding any teams worthwhile.

The SEC would definitely need to get into North Carolina/Viginia if expansion becomes reality again.

Of all the ACC schools, Florida State is the one that most wants to GET OUT of that conference.
However, as in FSU's case as well as with all other ACC schools, the grant in rights deal is completely blocking all of them from leaving. It's EXPENSIVE and it just doesn't look too promising for any of them to leave and go elsewhere right now. Some kind of knight in gold may come along and deliver them, but who?
The Big 10 has the potential to overtake the SEC, especially with the addition of USC and UCLA.

Lets say that Oregon, Washington, Notre Dame and any number of ACC teams joins the Big 75 or whatever they become, UGA is still UGA, Bama is still Bama and LSU is still LSU. Those 3 would win 80% of the time that they played ANYONE in the Big 700 or whatever they become. If you tosse Tennessee, TAM, UK, USC and Ole Miss its a 50/50 toss up that those teams beat everyone in the Big 7000 at least half the time. Just because the Big 700000 had 700000 teams if they don't have one that can beat UGA and one that can beat LSU and one that can beat Bama what are the better than, the middle of the SEC??? When they start winning head to head against the SEC they will have become equally important as a conference. Keep getting that arse whupped by SEC teams and its going to be hard to claim you are better than the SEC

Overtake in what way? Certainly not on the field. The combination of all the power in the big 10 has proven unable to overcome 2-3 SEC teams. They already make more money that the SEC....in what way will they overtake the SEC? It ain't going to be in wins in head to head matchups anytime soon...
