Is Arch really bad?

or does he practice well and just get the yips in games?

I'm leaning towards bad.

For those who follow behind the scenes, enlighten us with a take.

Look at what Sarkisian did to Quinn Ewers took the highest rated QB prospect and turned him into a 7th round draft pick.

Sark is the QB killer

You cant lean into every single recruiting service and assume they are gold.
Also Quinn was a very good college QB, he lacks the accurate deep ball to be relied on in the NFL, 2 very different types of games.

He was under appreciated at Texas, something a lot of fans do on the regular

He is not really bad. He is just average and media hype and expectations are much higher.

He lacks decision making skills, audible, and intermediate accuracy.

He is also not playing in the best O for his skillset. If Sark turned to the Tebow Offense we are 5-0 but Sark wants to play with this skill position toys but lack the O line and Qb intangibles to do so.

He's not horrible. He's 76% winning percentage as a starter. Only two other QB's in SEC with a better rate. The hype and expectations exceed him.

I do not in the slightest but when you take the highest rated recruit from the class of 2021 and the highest rated recruit from the class of 2023 and proceed to have everyone clamoring for the backup QB in 2024 and 2026 (their redshirt junior year) and the common denominator is you then guess what *YOU* are the problem not the quarterbacks.

I think arch could just be a bad fit for sarks system. He can make elite plays so the ability is there he just appears to have trouble checking down to easy throws, when a plays not there so he gets panicked and starts fricking up easy passes. If he went somewhere that had a qb friendly system that could help mitigate his decision making I think he’d crush it. His weakness is coverage id, and check downs. He needs a system with less progression that utilizes motions or wr formations that help identify coverage before the snap. Less decision making more throwing and running.

Remember last year when he had major issues with his footwork which affected accuracy ? This year he has had several delay of game penalties . For all the training and private coaching he has had … he is average , and just doesnt have the burning desire to be the best ( like Brees or Burrow ). He has an excellent team . No excuses .

Go back to 2024 when he was a RS-Fr after Quinn came back Sark wouldn't let Arch throw and almost got him killed running the ball.

Now in 2026 he won't let Arch audible, won't let him run, and won't let him play off script which seems to be his strong suit.

There is a consistent problem and it's the megalomaniac head coach who wants to run his complex slow developing NFL offense no matter how unsuccessful it is.

Sark needs an OC but go watch the Brooks Austin tape on Arch. Its brutal

Horrible mechanics, throwing on back leg, across his body, etc. Holding the ball WAY too long, ignoring check downs wide open, throwing in to double coverage when he has 15 yards of wide space in front of him.

Sark is to blame for a lot, but Arch has regressed badly. I just think theres a chance that Quinn and Arch were overhyped and never as good as people thought. Arch was always iffy coming from pee wee football.

He might not ever have been what he was expected to be but he is a much better player than what we’re seeing right now. Sark has ruined him.

He's not bad, just an above average qb. Playing for Sark doesn't help. He played a at small High School with little competition in the team's He played. He would do great at a smaller school with a Good QB coach.....Sark is not it! The expectations were tremendous and unfair to him. I am not a fan of the Mannings but they did him a deserves by pushing him to a situation he was not prepared for.

I watched him play some in high school and never understood the hype. As an LSU guy I was glad he didn't come here. If his name wasn't Manning I doubt he starts for Texas.

Anybody that watched his tape from Newman could see he was playing against children in high school.

Same here. Got called out as "sour grapes" when I wrote that Arch was a 3-star with any other last name.

Take a look at his high school stats against the only good teams Newman played. They were atrocious.

Id say its mainly Sark with a large hint of Arch and Oline play but we can agree to disagree

If Arch was an avg college QB we would be undefeated right now.

He looks like a deer caught in the headlights when i watch him now...just like when he played those teams in high school. I am really surprised they haven't played their backup more. But tbh I haven't watched much of Texas outside the really big matchups that sometimes are at the same time as LSU game

yeah and some of us have been screaming this for years and got blasted for it.

Sark was, is, and will continue to be a fraud. His player development on offense is total shite.
Yes, Arch is bad but he's bad for the same reason Quinn was bad. Sark.

And it's the same reason Bell/Lacey will be bad.
