I’d bet 1% of American males can break 80.

That seems a little low.

Are you talking everyone just picking up the ball for the first time, or are you talking about the OP's assertion that anyone with proper training could do it?

Are we talking over or under hand

Only 81. Had a wicked curveball though.

I hit around 88, but my pitches had a lot of movement. 90 with a lot of movement can get you far in baseball.

True, but you can pass out if you blink too much so be careful.

I never played baseball past 11 and 12 year old league. In high school I picked up a ball, loosened a bit, reached back and threw It as hard as I could and it was only 80mph .
This was hard to understand for me.considering I was a qb most of my football life ,I thought I'd throw 84 or more

I hit 70 last week at the new top golf at the battery and my arm hurt for 4 days after
prolly 85ish when I played everyday.

I’m sure there will be a lot of truthfulness in here...

High 70s low 80s in highschool. A ton of movement due to sidearm delivery. At a fair a few years ago it was in the 60s.
In college I threw a 14.9 pound bowling ball 19 MPH with 8-14 boards of movement for 4 years.

90 is not normal unless you have a natural strong arm with lots of training, stretching, strong legs
You arent going 78 to 90 for example. You may be able to go 85-(natural) to 90 with proper workout/training etc
Just like you aren’t improving your 40 by half a second either

I've frequently clocked tennis serves over 135, but think the fastest I ever clocked throwing a baseball was 83-84. No command at that speed throwing for me though whatsoever. Much different skill IMO.
