This is why Austin is booming. If you hate high prices and traffic, you’d never want to live there. Yet it’s booming. Why? Because that little blue dot is saved by Texas’ no state income tax and overall low tax policies.
Austin mainly grew because of talent pool, business friendly tax breaks to lure major corporations, good vibes/creativity & the scenery of hill country.
That allure has since faded due to high housing costs, traffic & poor city leadership. It’s the surrounding suburbs which are actually booming. Williamson County is likely to pass Travis in both population and worth by 2030.

Not sure where you’re looking because county level census estimates for 2023 won’t be released until April. Most up-to-date MSA figures are through 2022.

I think this is most surprising out of anything. I understand NC with Charlotte and the crazy growth in the triangle.
But what's the deal with the SC? Old farts flocking to HH & Charleston?
South Carolina's appeal is likely due to a combination of lower cost of living, comfortable climate, and ease of access to outdoor activities, as well as job growth in the healthcare and tech industries. Per some Economic website.

As a South Carolinian this is painful to see. We're out of room down here.

Birmingham metro area is largest though , at
1.1+ million.

I'm sure the Census Bureau will have another "whoopsie" counting error in 2030 so that California and New York maintain congressional seats they don't warrant, and the red states will be underrepresented. Funny how those type of mistakes always goes one way...

Damn, The Knoxville Metro is catching up to the New Orleans metro. That's wild for what used to be Louisiana's crown jewel.
The hurricanes were obviously a big part, but leadership in that city and state are infamous nation wide for how inept and corrupt they are. I guess I shouldn't be that surprised

The problem we're having is all the new york and cali transplants who move here then vote for the same ideology that drove them from those shitholes in the first place. Dumbest mother frickers in the country. They are a fricking cancer.

Yeah, 123% of the state of Alabama’s growth in the past two years has been in metro Huntsville, Daphne-Fairhope, Tuscaloosa, and Auburn. The rest of the state is as a whole losing population.
Metro Birmingham is still by far the largest population center at just under 1.2 million. Metro Huntsville is now at 515,000, so not quite half the size. Birmingham however is stagnant. It has added just 565 people in the past two years (+.05%).

They must be counting a pretty wide area as part of "New Orleans". Orleans Parish (which is actually New Orleans) has less than 400,000 people.

I think that is the case in some areas, i.e. Austin, Atlanta, and Dallas especially.
However, a lot of these transplants were red dots in a blue state and they finally had enough and left. I would venture the average migrant from CA, NY, ans NJ who left those states since 2020 votes Republican 60-40 or greater.
Florida’s shift to the right is almost entirely from Fed up Northerners who moved South.
