Saban really should be on this list and no. 1 because he kept other SEC teams from winning natties during his Bama run and he made Bama the greatest program in history, thus making all the Roll Tide greetings insanely insufferable

A lot of recency bias. Where are Woody Hayes and Bo Shembechler?

Yes Spurrier def was a "villian". He owned the SEC anc constantly mocked people. He maybe liked by most people now..but in his prime there is no question he was hated.

As for Tebow I think the hatred was more about the constant media attention. Do not people hated the person, but the media attention was overwhelming as hell.

Most of the Tebow hate was due to the taint-polishing by the media, when even the average college football fan knew his game wouldn't translate and he was going to be a bust in the NFL.

Woodys antics are things of legend. He shoved a camera man down during a usc game, punched a camera man during Mich game, back handed a Mich St student for laughing at him, punched a Clemson player mid game for getting an interception, tried to start a fight with three ucla students at the same time before a game. And that’s just what he got caught doing.

I love me some Tebow. Always have. Except for that jump pass game. But les ran it on them also. More embarrassing from the first jump pass game was Xavier Carter kneeling at the 2 on the kick off after. Or driving down the field on the opening drive like a hot knife through butter then jamarcus fumbled the qb sneak snap at the 1. My les miles frustration was unfairly directed at Tebow. He always give LSU props and is just a good dude.

What makes Lane a super villain. He’s a funny troll. But I don’t think anyone hates him. He’s kind of a clown.

Folks hated Tebow because they assumed his very outward religiosity was performative like it is for a lot of athletes (and politicians for that matter) and that he didn't actually walk the walk behind closed doors. And honestly given the abundance of performative Christianity we see everywhere in the sporting world, it was a fair enough assumption.

However at this point I think it's plainly obvious to everyone in hindsight that... yeah, that's actually just who he is.

Edit: As someone else stated above, he also was glazed by the media heavily, which is always going to drive up hate.

I will say, if Spurrier's peak 90s Florida teams played in the era of the 4-team playoff, he'd be even more of a villain than he's remembered as because they'd win more than one natty

No Deloss Dodds?

He’s got to be on there.

He’s more responsible for destroying the old Big 12 than anyone else, responsible for the Longwhorn Network and coined the phrase “We are the Joneses”.

How he did later in the NFL changed nothing about how he played in college. Not one play, not one yard.
