Pretty clear Cooper was the brains of Johnson's defense ....

Tell Mr Ellis to put his big boy pants on next time he coordinates a FB game. Next, he will say the bigger and faster recruits coming in each year is ruining football.

Not my point at all. He's saying it's all about getting to the line as quickly as possible now, instead of "ready, break" like it use to be. I think "whining" is a way-overstatement.

seems like whining to me

to me it seems like he just needs to adapt or GTFO. Football is an evolving sport, coaches try to think of how to capitalize on a weakness that is in place. Always been like that. If he can't get his signals in or out in time, he might want to change how he does it or he is not going to be around long with how the hurry up is taking over NCAA

The best defense against a hurry up offense is your own ball control offense. Don't get sucked into their tempo. Worked for my little high school against Gus Malzhan for a state championship.

I agree with Ellis. The HUNH is turning SEC football into a carbon copy of PAC10 football. PAC10 football already is and SEC football so will be like arena football. Entertaining as hell, but don't amount to much. In another 10 years just might as well make it powder puff football.

That's about what it comes down to.

Coaches probably complained about the forward pass too. The game is constantly evolving. There's always going to be someone looking for an advantage. If he wants to do something about it, create a defense that can stop it.

Ellis needs to work smarter and harder and FWIW coach Malzhan's philosophy will get figured out by the really smart coaches and unless he has the ability to adapt and change, he will become an average OC.

The guy who ran the offense all the way to a Heisman, a BCSNC and a #1 overall draft pick couldn't even explain a simple play call to John Gruden. How the hell is anyone else going to figure it out?

It's so simple it's difficult, and it makes whiny bitches like Ellis Johnson lament for the good ol days of 3 yards and a cloud of dust, ball control offense.. You know the offense where lazy bastards like him got 25 or 30 seconds to call a defense to defend the i formation or the wishbone..

I hope he enjoys getting another 50 hung on him this season... bitch.

The problem is enforcement of the rules. Twice in the Iron Bowl last year Auburn substituted and the umpire didn't stand over the ball and let Bama substitute.

Problem is, saban sits on a lead and let auburn come back instead of shutting them down

You gotta be kidding me. I would've hate to have heard you when the forward pass came around.

The SEC is and always will be defined by defense. It just goes in cycles. There were times when UF and Spurrier made the SEC look foolish. He runs the same stuff now and they play a lot of games where the score stays in the 20's or less.

shitty defenses that allow a game to get out of hand are ruining the game....

Well unless you have an offense that can overcome a 24 point deficit....

The Auburn offense being extremely fast is just a myth.

AU averaged 69 plays per game last year. Which is about 1 more play per game, on average, than we did the 20 years before Malzahn got there. Where it helps is with AU getting to the line and Malzahn having time to adjust to the defense. He is a genius at it.
