This was brought up on an SC board and I really don't like these comments coming from our DC. The only time the hurry up should be considered some "cheap" form of offense is if a team breaks it out of nowhere. Otherwise, when you know that the opposing team is going to run that offense then you should be able to get ready for it like you do with every other offense. If you can't get your defense conditioned or prepared enough than that is on the DC, it takes a lot of brains from the players and coaches alike to stop an efficient hurry up.. and if it is too much for you then =
I hope he knows Navy runs the triple option and when they come to Columbia this season he won't think our defense is getting cheated because we can't stop it or something.
eta: I know MSU is planning to run the hurry up, not sure if AU is still going to or who else on our schedule plans on running it.. but if E.Johnson feels this way about it we could have a rough couple of games.

I think it's pretty lame. Kinda like the hidden ball trick.

I don't see how he's whining at all. He makes a very solid point. The fundamentals are changing in favor of offenses, and it's definitely changing the game and making it harder for defenses. This is why a scheme similar to Malzahn's will be employed more and more over the next few years until the rules change again.
I get more entertainment out of the about-face the opinions on the SECr are doing than E Johnson's comments. This guy was PRAISED on here 2 years ago. Absolutely

Auburn did a good job of stopping Oregon. LSU two years ago stopped Auburn. There are other examples, but you get the point.
It is still blocking and tackling. Line up and be ready.

Tackling is something we didn't do to well, moreso against Cam. Our inability to stop Auburn had more to do with our inability to stop Cameron Newton. We stopped Clemson just fine, and they employ a very similar offense.

No offense, but Auburn was far better at QB, RB, and on the offensive line.. Clemson was just.. Well, Clemson..

I agree with Ellis....the hurry has ruined the game. Get back to playing regular football...it's better to watch... ( not knocking the coaches, I would do anything to win as well)

Kinda my point, relating to the hurry-up offenses.

So Offenses have enough time to call a play and make subs but the Defense does not?

Not my point at all. He's saying it's all about getting to the line as quickly as possible now, instead of "ready, break" like it use to be. I think "whining" is a way-overstatement.

but...but....but, theyre too fast. we dont know what to do. totally unfair. everyone should be forced to run the I, wishbone, or wingT. thats how football was made to be played
