Mack Brown went 5-7 5 years after winning a national title. Urban Meyer went 7-6 2 years after winning a national title.

Urban Meyer went 7-5 in the regular season in his last season at Florida. He's 71-8 so far at Ohio State, and didn't even lose a 5th game until his fifth season at OSU.

Sometimes coaches just want to leave, which is reflected in their team's performance.

It's a bit curious that LSU fans are hyper focused on Jimbo's record for just this year, while ignoring his previous 7. Including his national title. And his elite recruiting prowess. And his ability to develop elite QBs.

Yes, failing to get Jimbo and watching him go to a rival stings. And it's unfortunate that King and Alleva will continue to mire LSU football in mediocrity for the foreseeable future.

But let's not start pretending that Jimbo is suddenly a bad coach merely out of envy.

FSU was basically down to their 4th string QB after Frenchy got hurt. Still way too much talent to lose 6 games though.

Yep, one of four active active head coaches with a national championship was a bad hire guys. No coach anywhere has ever had a down year. This guy gets it, let’s shut it down.

Don't bother, OP subscribes to the "John Madden commentating on a Brett Favre Game" philosophy....

No one said he is a bad coach. Just not elite, and extremely overpaid.

Nick Saban went 5-6-1, 6-6 and 6-6 respectively three years at Michigan State and 7-6 at Bama.

Dabo went 6-7 at Clemson

Harbaugh went 4-8 and 5-7 at Stanford

Harbaugh went to the damn super bowl as well as being a good college coach

Saban and dabo would never sniff the super bowl in the nfl.

To be fair not one of those records is exactly 5-6

His offense with at LSU was very predictable. Never thought he would be a good head coach. And when I though LSU would not become more predictable, they went to run run pass.

So he learned how to be an elite coach?
When did that transformation take place?

When he hired Chad Morris. He was on thin ice going into 2011, IIRC.

Saban at MSU was not elite. LSU beat Saban in the mighty Independence Bowl when he was coach at MSU with Jerry Dinardo as our coach. Then LSU hired Saban a few years later and everyone laughed. LSU saw potential in him and he saw potential in LSU!!!

No, but Urban Meyer had a 7-5 regular season. Pretty damn comparable when you consider FSU played two Power 5 non-conference opponents this year while Florida only had one that year.

Not really, when you consider that Urban Meyer's worst season was in the SEC, not the ACC and that Florida played both Alabama and LSU that season.

To be fair his record would be 6-6 like the others if FSU wasn't butthurt about him taking a better offer.

Agreed. A&M just paid Gene Chizik 75 million dollars.

Chizik would at least get them a Natty before losing control of the team. Hopefully there are no trailer parks around College station.
