They're a real team. They play for each other, for Indiana, and have all bought into Cignetti's culture and ethos.
This is what college teams used to look like: team driven. Culture driven.
Not the narcissists thinking they're owed something and start thinking about "transferring" in October if they can't fleece their current school for absurd amounts of money.

Alabama not only gets in, but of course they're rewarded with a revenge game against Oklahoma.
If we land Leavitt from the portal, we'll be there.
Marty Smith interview with Kiffin

The entire national media is pissed that Kiffin is coming to LSU. It's BK all over again.
They can't stand the optics of LSU poaching top coaches from other big name programs.

He'd be an outstanding hire. I have Kiffin as 1a and Freeman as 1b.
But there's absolutely no way that he leaves Notre Dame for LSU. He makes $9 million a year, signed an extension less than a year ago, can recruit well, and has an easy path to the playoffs and title game each year.
On top of that, he saw Kelly crash and burn down here and doesn't want to risk making the same mistake when he has it good in South Bend.
0% chance this happens.

Why are our screens suddenly good?
2 fumbles and a missed field goal in the first quarter.
re: Wow. A tackle pulls and Ole Miss scores.

We would have, at the very least, some of the best QB play and offensive production year in and year out under Kiffin.
quote:
“And I can say this based off of what I do know,” McShay said. “LSU is going to make an offer to Nick and Miss Terry that will force them to reconsider their justifiable stance of ‘at this point in our lives, working College GameDay, ESPN, ABC is where we where we belong.’

"Privately, there will be an offer made that will make Nick walk into the his home office with with Miss Terry, or get out in the lake and say, ‘Let’s at least talk about this for a minute.’
ESPN ranks all the open college football jobs
Posted by Cs on 10/26/25 at 8:32 pm
quote:
The following Power 4 jobs rankings are based on the following five areas:
Recent/historical on-field performance
Access to CFP
Roster-building/access to talent
University leadership
Financial support
quote:
1. LSU Tigers
LSU hasn't won consistently enough since its last national title, but the ingredients of a top-shelf job are there, especially location and fan support. As a coaching agent said the week before LSU made its move, "If LSU came open, that's by far the best job on the market, easily." Now it has.
quote:
2. Penn State Nittany Lions
Despite a longer-than-expected national championship drought, Penn State has been very close to a breakthrough and has the financial structure to make the next step. The Big Ten is a bit deeper but doesn't have as many CFP-ready programs as the SEC. Penn State is undoubtedly one of them.
quote:
3. Florida Gators
Florida is the only SEC program in a state loaded with talent and now has the financial infrastructure to support its coach as he chases a national championship. But the overall coaching churn and uneven results in Gainesville can't be ignored.
quote:
4. Oklahoma State Cowboys
If Oklahoma State has a strong plan, it should be able to rise fairly quickly in a league without behemoth brands. The team isn't far removed from CFP contention and can get there faster than other programs on this list.
quote:
5. Virginia Tech Hokies
Virginia Tech is a football school in a winnable conference that can take a significant step with newfound financial backing and the right coaching hire.
quote:
6. Arkansas Razorbacks
Despite success in other sports, Arkansas' backslide in football and position within an increasingly challenging conference creates a steep climb to CFP relevancy. Arkansas has definite growth potential but must improve at harnessing local financial support.
quote:
7. Stanford Cardinal
Stanford's recent on-field struggles, awkward placement in the ACC and limited recruiting pool creates some unavoidable obstacles, but Luck's leadership and a renewed commitment to the program generates genuine hope.
quote:
8. UCLA Bruins
UCLA hasn't been consistently good for a long time and now plays on the Western flank of a conference with more top-tier programs that have fewer problems acquiring talent and filling their stadiums.

re: More expensive? Lanning or Kiffin?
Posted by Cs on 10/26/25 at 8:11 pm to LesterFreamon
Have no clue why people keep throwing out Lanning's name.
There's no way he leaves. Oregon is now in the Big Ten, he has unlimited Nike money for NIL and facilities, and gets to live in the pacific northwest.
He's not giving all that up to come to south Louisiana.

ESPN: Of all the major coaching openings, LSU is the biggest of them all
Posted by Cs on 10/26/25 at 7:45 pm
quote:
For the third consecutive Sunday in October, a major college football coaching job has opened, and LSU is the biggest of them all.
quote:
LSU's firing throws another surprising twist into an incredibly active coaching cycle. Although Penn State and Florida are both A-list jobs, LSU is on a tier of its own. LSU is the only Power 4 program in a state rich with talent. The fact three very different coaches -- Nick Saban, Les Miles and Ed Orgeron -- all won national championships there speaks to the job's potential and overall excellence.
quote:
Is it a perfect job? No. The politics and occasional dysfunction around LSU are baked in there. Athletics director Scott Woodward's future is also in question after the Kelly hire failed so miserably and led to a $54 million buyout. But the potential at LSU is massive and every potential candidate knows what the program can be when everything is aligned. Buckle up. Things are about to get even wilder.
LINK
ESPN knows. Coaches know. This is the biggest football job opening and it's not particularly close.
Whoever we have calling the shots right now had best not frick this up.
Candidates listed:
Lane Kiffin - "LSU's firing of Kelly could be really bad news for Florida, which has made little secret of its desire to bring Kiffin to Gainesville. Perhaps Florida can still get its man, but Kiffin should be near or at the very top of LSU's wish list. He wouldn't have to deal with in-state competitors there, and would lead a program with few if any limitations with resources, facilities and fan base. Kiffin is 51-19 at Ole Miss and has the Rebels positioned for their first-ever CFP appearance this season, which could end up hurting his chances to take another job. But he doesn't need to be sold on LSU's history and the recruiting advantages. The 50-year-old is 112-53 as an FBS coach."

re: Go get Kiffin and the best D coordinator available

Kiffin would win a title here.
At the very least, we'll never have to worry about QB play or offensive production.

re: May need to go the coordinator route
Posted by Cs on 10/26/25 at 6:29 pm to FlappingPierre
Oklahoma, Notre Dame, USC, Georgia, Michigan, Oregon, Ohio State, and others have all done this.
LSU is definitely not above hiring an elite, younger coordinator as a HC.
You'd have to find someone who:
A) Consistently fields top 10 units for whatever side of the ball they're coaching
B) Relentless recruiter
C) Can motivate and relate well to the players.

Update from CBS. Added to OP.
Seems like it's done - just ironing out the details of the departure.
