O took over mid-season and did 6-2. Got the HC job almost by accident, had an OC (Canada) forced on him by the AD. Took away Play Calling from that OC mid-season and fired him. Got his own guy. LSU later fired that AD.

LSU has improved every year under O, a lot.

O is great at Recruiting, Hiring, Delegating and Motivating. His players love him and the nation loves him as the face (almost a caricature) of the program. Every day Oeaux gets 100-200 requests for interviews (per his staff).

While LSU will not be as good as in '19 this coming year (no way to be as good as the most accomplished team of all time), LSU has moved up and will stay up under O.

Does anyone think Ed O is overrated?

In 2019, he was making 4 mill a year at LSU, putting him at 30th overall in the country. Near the bottom in the SEC.

He sucked as a head coach at Ole Miss over a decade ago (2005-2007), there's absolutely no doubt about that.

At USC (interim) in 2013, 6-2, 6-1 in the Pac 12.

At LSU:
2016 (interim), 6-2, 4-2 in SEC.
2017 9-4, 6-2 in SEC.
2018 10-3, 5-3 in SEC.
2019 15-0, 8-0 in SEC, national champ.

So at LSU, he is 40-9, 23-7 in conference play. Overall in the last decade (adding in the USC interim) he's 46-11, 29-8 in conference play.

Go back and look at the preseason predictions for his teams, in particular 2018. There were lots of people expecting him to be fired that year, with 5-7 losses called going in. That team finished ranked #6.

Objectively, I would say Ed O has actually been very underrated, and that includes by me. If you look at his record, he clearly wasn't ready a decade ago, but now he's got to be a top tier coach.

Maybe, but they did go from 1992 to 2009 without one. And only got Saban because he wasn’t happy or particularly successful in the NFL. They could win one in 5 years after he leaves, or go another 17 years before getting one. Coaching picks are something of a crapshoot. One coach may be successful at one place and not so much at a different school.

Nobody knows what O is yet.

He's not an innovator or tactician, and even though he recruits well he's never once finished in the top 3 even with a chip under his belt. It's entirely possible he struck lightning for a season and won't do it again.

Then again, he's not an innovator or tactician so there's zero chance his edge will be figured out and he goes the way of Chip Kelly. And his recruiting has improved every single year.

We know the guy is a good motivator. We know he can hire well and put both coaches and players in a position to win. We also know he has the full support of the school and the community.

All in all, it's safe to say his floor is higher than Jimbo or Les Miles. His ceiling is much more unclear.

Who was the last coach who did those things that won a national title?

Nick Saban, Jimbo Fisher and Gene Chizik are all brilliant Xs and Os guys with respect to their specialty (Saban abd Chizik with defense, Jimbo with offense).

Chizik failed because he made shitty hires after his best assistants let and wasn’t an Ace recruiter.

No one can call him overrated coming off of a championship.

He will need to sustain this success for 3 years to erase his past coaching gigs and convince doubters.

So ask again in 3 years.

Has nothing to do with being a head coach, if it did then Saban wouldn't have needed Pruitt and Smart.

Jimbo rode Jameis and thats about all he's done.

Exactly which "best assistants"? Malzahn is no kind of offensive genius.

Good onside kick recovery to seal the game.

Says the fan of the team that needed 3 fluke plays to stay within 4 scores of the GOAT cfb team. Getting close enough to try an onside kick was a moral victory for Alabama and everyone knows it, especially you, which is why you keep bringing it up.

He's been living off of LSU writing blank checks for assistants. Let's see how he does when the assistant talent drops off. LSU would be smart to take the OC and DC hiring and game plan decisions out of his hands.

Dumbest post ever. He hired a guy that didn't do anything at the saints and it worked. It was his eye for talent that did that. Then hires an NFL head coach as a pgc. Then Pelini who's a DC legend.
Dude gets shite done. If it doesn't work, like Canada, he cuts bait.
