If paying players ruins college football, why won’t it ruin college basketball?
Like I said. It's not just that. It's just the final straw in a line of changes. People are just trying to blame it all on the NIL.

Plus most schools that legitimately care about basketball could all buy their share of basketball players. Football requires alot more players and money to compete.

Like you said people want balance and paying players in cfb is only going to make the normal top 10 or 15 competitive. But like I said maybe when it settles in those teams will be their own "league" and the rest will just be hoping for their Longshot chance to upset. It would be just more teams that are like a UAB that don't have a realistic shot at a NC but play every year anyways.

Every roster in the SEC could look like Mount Union or Wisconsin-Whitewater, and most stadiums in this conference would still sell out every week, fans and alumni would still go to their tailgates, and the sport would still have a massive following like it does now.

100% correct. Hell just think how many people show up or watch on TV and couldn't name a player on either team

Nope not ruined, but not the same either. Athletes don’t care about the schools at all.

You’d be surprised how many of them didn’t care 30 or 40 years ago, except as a means to an end.

What is it they say about don’t watch ‘em make the sausage, it can be disillusioning? We’re finally seeing the sausage being made because the courts have put the players in a predominant position.

They worked all their young lives for this. Most won’t go past college ball. Sure they deserve it. Be sure to pass that idea along to your young son. He has the opportunity to make some cash right after high school.

College basketball started going downhill after Garnett and Kobe jumped straight from high school. There is no real team building anymore because so much of the roster turns over every year.

The best players basically treat college like their last year of AAU ball and I despise it. The rise of AAU ball has also significantly contributed to the downfall of college basketball.

Depends on what you mean by ruined?

Will it be college football from 1990-2009? No, that is gone and will never come back.

Well then y’all should leave the conference. Nobody is going to beg you to stay.

The problem I see with NIL is it can only be governed by commerce/ free market laws at the State and Federal level. Every single state could have different laws so basically their are no standard laws that every college has to follow. The NCAA can't govern it without getting sued.

The colleges should have seen this craziness coming, and done something years ago. They could have paid athletes a decent standard salary and have a governing body like the NCAA enforce that. Now it's all gone to the free market and they have no control..It's going to get really crazy and ruin college sports as we know it..

Yes it’s pay for play and unless the ncaa does something and enforces it then it will continue to be pay for play

It takes time for many to see the writing on the wall. This has been coming for decades and now everyone acts surprised.

The problem isn't that kids weren't getting paid. The problem was with the money. Everyone got greedy and wanted their share. As fans love to point out, it's a business and not just a game.

If I wanted to watch professional football, I'd be an NFL fan. But I preferred the amateur game played by students, which disappeared long ago.

I think CFB is out of whack, HS kids are not worth NFL salaries. It is the desperation to win big that has caused this arms race . The most desperate are driving up these ridiculous payments to HS kids.

Where it ends most likely will be with CFB players being employees. That would be legal control of the situation. This would solve the portal problem and help with the fact that only key players have value greater than tuition and board and that value is not recognized as a fact not until they win big.

When it goes to an employment system IDK......

Sad situation.....it comes when the value of universities in general is being questioned. Tuition etc is also way out of whack. Also The universities have become groomers for the far left and the moral deviants . Universities have warped our culture in a destructive
way that seems very hard to correct without the closure of many......

Well you need to stop thinking because you aren’t the one who has money and don’t get to say who is worth what.
