A draft. After that who cares what they pay who. Get rid of the non power 5 schools and only let the big schools in.

They need to regulate NIL and transfer portal better. It sucks in it's current state

Nope not ruined, but not the same either. Athletes don’t care about the schools at all.

The gag is they never did! Just a mandatory pit stop before the league

Nah. I think its best days are ahead of it. Would you rather a bunch of plodding slow white guys in leather helmets go at it like "the good ole days"?

Those are only the good ole days to you because that is the way it was the last time A&M won a championship.

Paying players is not making them more athletic. The main thing it is doing for A&M is giving you all the annual false hope from January to September.

A lot of people don't get this. Most college football fans are fans of their school and their state. Every roster in the SEC could look like Mount Union or Wisconsin-Whitewater, and most stadiums in this conference would still sell out every week, fans and alumni would still go to their tailgates, and the sport would still have a massive following like it does now.

Yes. I recognized years ago money would be the ultimate death of college football. It all began with conference realignment and devaluation of the post season bowl games. NIL is simply the final nail in the coffin.

remember last year yall thought you were a playoff lock and then lost 4 games and then bailed out of a bowl vs wake forest... now that is whats pathetic... all that money wasted trying to polish your turd of a program

But 7 five stars were totally impressed with Jimbo's coaching prowess.

LOL

This story is writing itself.

It’s in the downward slope. Young kids aren’t playing football in the same numbers anymore.

I for one think this is such a waste of money that could be used for other things.... paying KIDS all this damn money signing deals while theyre in high school is beyond ridiculous.... seriously its just the nfl jr at this point, i mean what is the difference

Hopefully you also felt this way when schools were making tons of money on tv contracts and season ticket sales.

Can’t have it both ways. If you like all the fancy tv contracts and arms races with nice fancy stadiums, you can’t turn around and be against paying the kids who play a huge part in those deals.

I don't think anyone doesn't think this and the wild no controlled transfer portal (its needed but controlled) isn't ruining cfb. That and the sissified rules of late and too many bowls causing them to lose their traditional feel.

But the only way to fix it is to hit a big reset button on everything and go back to the 70's - 90's Era. Where the ncaa scared people into following the rules most of the time and players wanted to go to school because who they were and their coach was. Players thought it meant something to go to a Bowl instead of everyone going to Papa John's and Alflac Bowls.

Sure, it is so different NIL will never go away but there is something the NCAA can do and change the portal rule.

If an athlete enters the transfer portal, then he has to sit out the current year and 1 full year before he is eligible to play. Nothing about NIL and portal comply with the mission statement by the NCAA.

Below is the mission statement of the NCAA

Mission Statement of NCAA*
Our purpose is to govern competition in a fair, safe, equitable and sportsmanlike manner, and to integrate intercollegiate athletics into higher education so that the educational experience of the student-athlete is paramount.

The NCAA is a step away from only controlling the academic part of schools. Sports, other than players making their grades, is about to be out of their control.

Which really they should create a second division to control sports with lawyers and more power.

No much has changed in Basketball. Yeah they get paid but players don't stay long and the postseason and the other stuff have stayed the same.

CFB is a completely different sport than 25 years ago. It's not just the paying players that have ruined it. It's just the final straw.

Maybe after it settles down it will be better and seem the normal.

If paying players ruins college football, why won’t it ruin college basketball?

Nobody cares about how long players stay. They care about competitive balance. If they think they can compete in the college basketball workforce marketplace, they’re happy.
