We got flagged for doing a Fins up (Landshark mimic) after a sack against Ole Miss .... don't be surprised when they start throwing flags for doing the Horns down

That thumbs down gesture to the Texas A&M crowd earned Reese a 15-yard penalty for excessive celebration, and helped the Aggies turn their next possession into three points. With Baylor's defense already doing its best to aid the Texas A&M offense, penalties like Reese's are seriously painful

Some even call us the GAYTORS,

People who do that are 12 years old. I just don't understand pulling some random nondescript variation of some teams/schools name/mascot being thought of as clever.

Gaytors
thUGA
Texas 8&4
Alabana
and so forth shows a lack of creativity to me. I get that when trolled somebody might pull something like that out, but seriously?

Always been an SEC rule.

Also, people have done Horns Down for decades. No one cared. What changed? A Texas player did the Texas Tech guns up symbol as Guns Down after scoring and was penalized. Texas asked the Big 12 why everyone can do Horns Down but we can't do the same with Tech's hand sign. That is when the Big 12 started calling this.

When you make 2 kicks to beat Florida in the Swamp you can Gator Chomp all you want. SEC don’t care. All’s fair in the SEC.

So much ignorance demonstrated here by the Aggie and many others.
1. Fans are not prevented from giving Horns down sign—never have been.
2. Never met a fellow Horn who cares if fans or opposing players do it. Made up issue. Repeated for those who feel better when they say Texas cares. We don’t. Can’t control what others do. Don’t want to.
3. Are opposing team’s players prohibited from doing gator chomp during games? If not, good. If so, that’s no different from what you are complaining about.

Bottom line — we don’t care. Hook ‘em and look forward to joining your league. We wouldn’t be joining if we didn’t respect you (well, Aggies excluded).

Well then you've never met Scholz of SurlyHorns...

He says that someone giving a Texas fan the horns down is "the same as giving them the finger".

I was amused by this because nobody is pissed off or angry when they give a horns down. It's more of a sign language version of an eyeroll.

As in all things, there is the fringe element that garners disproportionate attention. All schools have that element I suppose.

If a player does it at the opposing team in a taunting type manner, it'll be a penalty.

Other than that, not a chance in hell.

We've come to recognize it as a gesture of endearment.

If that's true, then why is it a penalty. Why not just take it and play on?

To answer the question I think they will, but not the way it was originally in the B12. The first year if a player did it all after a TD or big play it was called as Unsportsmanlike Conduct. Now they are looking at it more like taunting, so if you do it going into the endzone and there is not a Texass player right there great, but if you do it right at a Texas player it will be called. But ALSO if a Texas player were to do horns up at an OU player in the same situation it is supposed to be called too.

Sounds like the Chomp. If you do it and no Florida players are around, no problem.

However UTexas had better get thicker skin because the fans will not be so nice (although the SEC, unlike the B12, does not allow fans directly behind the players.)
