I guess that’s fair.

But you did have to go back pretty far for the data to start to match the thesis

Of LSU's last 3 wins in the series, 2 were as the away team, which generally matches the overall trend.

All time, it's something like 17 of LSU's 27 wins were played in the state of Alabama.

He gave his reason - missing Mike Leach. Seems plausible

South Carolina is kind of odd. I think they have the right coach and I do expect them to do well... but they really got hurt by transfers this off-season.

Jordan Burch, Marshawn Lloyd, Jaheim Bell, Gilbur Edmund... these are significant parts of their production from last year that voluntarily left the team.

That's a lot of production to lose that wasn't expected with graduation to just think things continue to build from where they were. With those guys SC would be the top of tier 3. Without them? Maybe it right as he listed.

Why is LSU being so overhyped? Didn't they get throttled by Aggy?

It doesn't make sense when the reason for Tier 4 is "expectations exceeds talent and depth" when a number of teams in the tier above them literally have the same issue. Plus, some of them are easing in completely new head coaches and quarterbacks while SC is not. There's just no consistency in his assessment.

This is actually fair in my opinion. Our fanbase is way too excited.

at a point we keep getting picked to finish low and keep exceeding with lesser talent, why wouldnt we be excited when we actually do have a little talent this year.

“Gets LSU at home”

Bama has other games besides this one. Ever seen how Bama plays at JHS? Playing the Horns. Got to play A&M. Lots of tough ones as all SEC teams do. Nobody knows how this season ends up. Anybody see A&M blowing out LSU coming last year?

I certainly hope one day the college football talking heads will actually know what the frick they’re talking about.

Burch maybe

Lloyd didnt have 1000 total rushing yards and was incredibly injury prone. When he played...great, but that wasnt often

Bell had 100 touches last year and wasnt anything special. A bowl game made that man. our walk on FB ended up being a better TE than him. Our TE room should be much better with Knox and co.

Edmund was a backup. Would it have been nice to have him, sure..same as Burch, but we get some injured dudes back.

overall we should be fine and those guys are replaceable. Yes they were "significant parts of production" but their numbers werent great.

Not many teams have beaten bama since saban got there. So 2007 on is still better than most teams.

I don't know of another school that lost their biggest producers in the same way SC did other than maybe Missouri. I can see a bit of a "WTF" on why Mizzou is high and SC is low, and I'd agree with you there.

As I said, SC is hard for me to categorize. I like the HC. I like what he's done with coaching changes and it's clear his players respond to him and he gets the most out of his guys.

But I do see a big hole when it comes to talent on the roster right now, in large part due to transfers of players who were big parts of last season's success.

The talent composite from 2022 had SC with 3 5-stars and 21 4-stars. Their roster right now according to 247 has 1 5-star and 21 4-stars and a ton (11) of those 4-stars are freshmen. That bodes well for future seasons as their depth of talent will increase with recruiting like that. But for next year it makes me think the exodus of top talent through the transfer portal might have them in a bad spot as the talent they're bringing in isn't ready yet.

Marshawn Lloyd was SC's leading rusher and had 5.2 ypc. Bell was #2 in rushing yards. The two of them accounted for 1/3rd of SC's TD's from scrimmage last season (receiving and rushing TD's). SC's returning rushers each averaged 4.0 YPC or less last season.

Bell hurts because his TE/HB role doesn't have the next man up either. His backup Stogner also left SC.

As for Edmund, he led SC in TFL last season. Looking at DL, SC loses their #1 DL in tackles (Burch, transfer), #2 (Johnson, Graduation), #3 (Pickens, Graduation)and #4 (Edmund, transfer). That's a lot of production that's disappearing from the depth chart in one season, and it should have been half of what it was if not for transfers.

I understand you saying "their numbers weren't great"... but they were the best number producers that SC actually had last season. Losing them kind of does what the OP said... reduce depth and talent levels on this year's squad.

We know how valuable the opinion of the always unbiased Mike Griffith is. I’m not even saying his list here is necessarily wrong, but his opinion on anything is worthless to everyone that isn’t a Georgia fan. I’ve heard him on the radio here in Birmingham enough times to know he’s basically just a fan with a website. He’s always ultra-defensive of any criticism of UGA, for instance.

Funny thing is, most of us don’t like him.

Yeah. He is a fan of Michigan st. That's his team.

He has covered Tennessee, Bama, and now Georgia on the beat.

He is the opposite of a UGA Homer because he shits on every UGA tradition. Twice weekly.

You realize last year you were in the group that finished 3-5 in the SEC occupying the 8th-11th place slots in the conference?

Do you really think 9th is a huge stretch?
