Surely the NCAA hasn't somehow undervalued or mishandled a media rights deal for a non-basketball sport. That's really unlike them.

It's not just the NCAA. ESPN wants us to care about womens sports. You can see that in their constant advertising of games people don't want to watch. The WNBA finals averaged about 530k viewers, and every game was in primetime on ESPN/ABC. The average attendance was around 8k per game. But you'd never know just how dreadful they do if you only looked at how much ESPN tries to push viewership. There's very little advertising for the mens CWS or college baseball in general outside the SECN

most definitely have had more wbb, softball, and wrestling convos with the average fan than baseball.

Case in point of why misery does not belong in the SEC.

Well baseball as a whole is dying in popularity so College baseball of course isn't that popular as well

As a Yahkee here on the rant I am a fan of another non-revenue sport in NCAA Wrestling. A sport may be great and loved by a group without being "popular". No shame in that, just like what you like. Myself I am not much os a baseball fan at any level but understnad why some love it.

What OP really means is it's not t-shirt fan friendly. There are tons of sports people still play and watch around the world that aren't mega Corp t shirt fan friendly. All strength sports for instance.

Youth baseball has actually been back on the rise. Not sure if football and head injuries have anything to do with it but the sport is growing where it needs for the long-term health of the sport

Arky, LSU, MSU, Ole Miss and even the aAgs have their baseball in order in the west.

Texas and Oklahoma fans have a bit to catch up on as far as support goes, but their programs in general should fit right in.

College hockey pulls bigger numbers than college baseball.

College baseball is as irrelevant as lacrosse.

"As irrelevant as lacrosse"? Not in the SEC which is all I care about. Not a coincidence that the 2 SEC schools mocking college baseball suck at college baseball. Omaha is still very much a big deal & most regionals / super regionals are sellouts.

People hate facts. College hockey makes double what college baseball does.

Again college baseball is closer to track and field. Can’t argue with facts.

I absolutely love college basketball but its not even close to baseball for me. Baseball is an easy #2 behind football and i'll do everything I can to watch/ listen to every baseball game.

I love whatever is in season...football turns into basketball turns into baseball and the circle repeats.

Love baseball. Agree it is not football or basketball level yet but CWS on the flagship is kind of a big deal.

No it doesn’t. It makes comparable revenues per program….and they have 1/5 as many programs as college baseball does. Baseball makes an average of 1.4 million per school. There are 300+ D1 baseball programs. Hockey generates $160 million across all of the NCAA…but only have 60 D1 programs. Nice creative math from your lacking in detail yahoo article. Thanks for sharing though

Those figures in your article aren’t even accurate. Some should have been pretty obvious to you. But I guess not

There’s a reason there’s no national broadcasts of NCAA hockey throughout their season. If it was so popular, that wouldn’t be the case. The Big10 network barely covers it

Hockey’s biggest media platform is the New England Sports Network

If every program in the country got to watch SEC baseball it would be more profitable. College Baseball is the #3 sport in most SeC school hearts.
