College baseball has NEVER been a big deal…until this past season. But now college baseball is the most important sport in the world. I’ll let you figure out why…

That’s funny, exact opposite for me! Strange

I am also a big NCAA softball fan, and the one thing they don't have to compete with is a professional league. The WCWS is their seniors swan song and they will be getting a job like the rest of us.
Good point. I'd imagine many people move on from college baseball once the MLB starts 2 months later.

Take football for example. Alabama vs. Tennessee was by far the biggest game with the most magnitude of the season at this point. It had a whopping 11+ million viewers.

And still, the Cowboys and Eagles (albeit a big rivalry) easily doubled that viewership with 24+ million a day later.

Softball does not have to compete with anything like that.

When’s the last time you had a deep conversation with someone about college baseball? Never? Yeah, me either. Can anybody irl name 5 college baseball players? I think I can name more women’s college basketball players and I don’t watch that shite either. Guys on this board are living in a bubble.

Ummmm… You are in the minority when it comes to SEC fans there. SEC west outside of Bama and Auburn to a lesser extent, west is fully bought in. Vandy and Florida good programs but not great tan support, nothing like the MSU, OM, LSU, Arky and A&M, South Carolina and TN are in this group too. Kentucky about like Bama, Georgia tan support sucks and there’s no excuse. Located in a Baseball hot bed, some history, they just don’t care. Do we even need to mention Mizzou?

I think it should be mentioned that Mizzou and Georgia are both the 2 worst fan bases, and both the only two states with Pro teams, Braves and Cards are deep deep fan bases and maybe they get the baseball attention from those states whereas State, OM, LSU, Arky, you gotta get in a plane to go to a MLB game; it’s not an option or a thought, when it comes to baseball in the true Deep South; college baseball is all we got, and boy do we love it. Every SEC member with that has ooor baseball support should make an effort to come to attend SEC games at State, Ole Miss, Arky and LSU, you’d be surprised at the atmosphere. State is the best, and no not biased it’s fact, high level AAA stadium with tailgating/lounge spots throughout the stadium, it’s a completely unique experience not seen in anywhere else in the world. It is my favorite place to watch a sporting event in the world, it’s a special place and you feel an energy in the Dude that is genuine and unique, sight lines throughout are as if they made the stadium just for the spot you are sitting in. Then we have the lofts (apartment/balconies in LF). If UGA; Bama and the likes had a stadium and atmosphere like states, and the other western big teams too, you would have a different view on College baseball.

Something about a state game in the Dude, I can drink more out there then any other setting. Minute you walk in the gates the beer in your cooler transforms into water

It's personally my favorite of the three, but I understand that I'm an outlier in that preference. And yes, I probably wouldn't feel this way if Texas wasn't as consistently good as they are. But they are, so I enjoy it

I with you. I'm more invested in college baseball than every other sport. In a 56 game schedule, I will watch most of, for all intents and purposes, every game outside random outliers. Baseball is what I grew up playing the most and my team has generally always been elite during my lifetime, so that has a lot to do with it. But the MLB season is way too long and has way too many games for me to stay invested for an entire season. College baseball has 1, sometimes 2, midweek games and a three game series every weekend for 4 months and the postseason in June. That's very manageable.

This clown cites profitably then uses womens softball as an example.

Many more college baseball teams “could” turn a profit if they had to. Most don’t try to because football makes so much money that it doesn’t matter if they only break even.

Of course that level of nuance is hard for the OP. Remember he doesn’t care about baseball but starts a thread about it.

Your source is Justins World huh? I don't buy that for a minute. I'm sorry your baseball program sucks so bad it bothers you during football season.

The WCWS is outdrawing the CWS because softball has become a more TV friendly game. And there are several reasons.'

1) It's a seveninning game with a mercy rule so games don't last more than a couple of hours.

2) It's a faster game as it moves through those seven innings.

3) There are way more exciting defensive plays in softball because the field is smaller and the ball moves slower. And there are more plays on the basepaths because of the field being smaller.

So end the end more people are willing to watch softball on TV rather than take the time to sit through an entire 3 to 3.5 hour baseball game with a thousand pitching changes, innings that drag on meaninglessly because there is no mercy rule.

It is what it is.

It’s not manageable. It’s perfection.
I don’t watch every single game of the season, but I watch 90% of them.

Ole Miss turns a profit in baseball, and I'm pretty sure State and LSU do as well.

The last profitability report I found was in an Advocate article from 2017. In addition to LSU, Ole Miss and Ms. State, I bet you can add Arkansas and Texas A&M to the list of universities that turn a profit in baseball.

Vandy is private so they don't have to report any financial information. No clue about Florida, So. Carolina or Tennesse.

Any idea how this will affect the Jell-O Shot market in Omaha?
