How exactly is Bama the clear winner in the "eye test" department? All the talking heads use this an excuse to scan past Bama's horrible playoff resume (0-1 vs. Top 15 teams), but even if you start truly digging into this "eye test" you realize its really just a bunch of hype based off of subjective recruiting rankings and success from previous seasons.

Let's go through Bama's biggest games in order:

1. @ #7 Auburn- LOSS 26-14

Bama was completely out-played and overwhelmed against Auburn. This was without a doubt the sloppiest Bama effort in a big game during the last 10 seasons. Nothing about Bama's performance appeared to be Playoff worthy.

2. vs. #17 LSU- WIN 24-10
Despite home field advantage in a prime time game, Bama's offense mustered just 299 total yards of offense. They were actually outgained by LSU in total yardage. This was certainly not a disaster for Bama, but again nothing about this performance screamed "PLAYOFF WORTHY!"

3. vs. #23 Mississippi State- WIN 31-24
For 80% of the game, Bama was completely pushed around by a MSU team that lost to Ole Miss and was completely destroyed by both Georgia and Auburn. Bama needed two 4th quarter touchdowns to pull out a win in the final seconds.

Let's just reiterate that fact that this same MSU team lost to Georgia and Auburn by a combined score of 70-13. They lost to Ole Miss, and they barely squeaked by Arkansas.

4. Texas A&M- WIN 27-19

Again, Bama struggled offensively, only gaining 355 total yards of offense against a Texas A&M team that gave up big yardage to most every decent team they played.

This Aggie defense gave up an average of 489 yards and 41 points against Auburn, LSU, and Mississippi State. Again, Bama's performance was the weakest against A&M compared to the other good SEC West teams.

----

So to conclude, Bama was poor to mediocre in all 4 of its biggest games.... only one of which was to a Top 15 team. The average score in these four games was Bama 24 - Opponent 20. Why is being on average 4 points better than teams ranked #7, #17, #23 and unranked some type of "Eye Test" Extravaganza?

Ohio State certainly has its faults as well, but for all of the media talking heads to act as if Bama is clearly the better team despite a worse resume is not based on facts.

Why is it that every other team is judged by their performance against good teams, yet Bama gets to be judged on their ability to thrash lowly teams like Vanderbilt, Tennessee, and Ole Miss?

I've been saying for awhile now, this Bama team is nothing special. They obviously have the talent to make a run in the playoff, but I believe Clemson will destroy them on January 1st. As much as I'd love to have another all SEC Championship, this Bama team is not Playoff worthy, IMO.

So basically Wisconsin got penalized for having to play in a conf champ game.

They lost by 6.

Alabama didn't win it's division much less it's conf , got a week off and moved up In the poll without even playing.

It's bull shite and total Bama bias.

I don't see how anyone not wearing crimson glasses can't see this.

It's an opinion of who you think is better.
Opinion. Not merit. Eye test.
Best two wins came against 2 teams with 7 combined losses.
Yet the "look" better.

60-0 vandy ! Woo hoo
Mercer in the house!

I hope Clemson beats the frick out of them.

Make more threads. Maybe the committee will change their minds.

The understatement of the year as it pertains to this thread.

I hate that bama is in, but I can't disagree with it.

Time to get rid of conference championships... would have been

Clemson
Auburn
Oklahoma
Wisconsin

Now that some teams get a bye without playing in the conference championship (Bama and OSU)

I've been waiting on your melt. You've wasted so much time arguing against Alabama, to no avail. Let it go.

Yep I mean the Ohio State brand sucks. This will be the greatest month ever watching some of you melt. The entertainment is second to none.

Did you email your formula to the committee? That might've changed their minds.

Two things:

1) They struggled but still won most of those games even with injuries.

2) You're in the playoffs and still melting over Bama.

3) frick you for making me defend Bama!!!

Now please break down Ohio State’s 31 point loss at unranked Iowa. How much of that performance appeared playoff worthy?

They are going with big name teams each and every time. I have no problem with Bama over Ohio State but this four team playoff is really just bullshite. Actually probably worse than hated BCS. We really don’t have a playoff system just a modified BCS.

The “eye test” allows them to do whatever the hell they want basically

Damn Georgia, you are in! Why are you whining about other teams getting in? If Ohio State would not have lost by 31 points to a five loss team they would be in. The committee gave Ohio State a shot last year without winning their division so they set the precedent then.

Okay,I'm going to have to go in to re-hab for all of the defense I've made of Alabama this weekend.

Lets take the LSU win first. As much fun at this forum has had wallowing in LSU's misery after the Troy game, Troy has a decent team. That wasn't Chaminade beating Virginia and Ralph Sampson. And LSU is a pretty good team. Alabama and LSU players enjoy this game and each team gets the other's best. Honestly LSU should be ranked higher than TCU,Michigan State,Stanford and Notre Dame. Plus I'd love to see LSU play Penn State and Washington.A two touchdown win was indeed a quality win for Alabama.

State at time was a legit top 15 team this year. Had their QB not gotten hurt vs Ole Miss its conceivable they would have finished 13th,14th.

Florida State is indeed a little tricky, but WHEN the game KICKED OFF, Florida State was #3 and Alabama wasn't challenged very much.

You cannot hold Ole Miss,Tennessee,Vanderbilt and Arkansas against them. They are members of the SEC who had bad teams this year.

Ohio State did play an excellent Oklahoma team --and was trounced -- in Columbus. Penn State and Michigan State are not any better than LSU or the 11/11 Miss State team.

Texas A&M is as good as Iowa. Alabama wasn't impressive, but they beat the Aggies on the road. Ohio State didn't put a glove on Iowa. Yea,if it had snowed 4inches and the wind was howling 45 mph and Ohio State had FG on the last play of the game hit the upright and lost 14-13,well. But they lost 55-24 --in November!!

Until the committee says conference champs only plus a one loss or unbeaten Notre Dame team, this was right and logical.

Iowa and Texas A&M are comparable teams. Bama and Ohio St played both on the road in a night game.

One team blew a 24-3 lead and won by 8.

One team got run off the field and lost by 31 points.

One team had been decimated by injuries on defense. The other team hasn't been nearly affected by injuries.
