Same story with Ohio St. last season

This may be why OSU fans are mad. It isn't close to the same story as last year. OSU was 3-1 against the Top 10 last year (top 10 when playoff teams were selected). Bama is 0-1.

That isn't close to the same

Even people from Alabama know Mobile is terrible.

Except you can't compare across years. Each year is a separate batch of candidates.

Ohio State 2017 and Alabama 2017 would not have had any shot at a playoff bid last year comparatively. I don't think either would have beaten out 2017 Penn State, even (yes I know that's impossible since Penn State won the 2016 B1G and Ohio State 2017 but you get my point).

The point is the notion that it has to be a conference champ was unequivocally destroyed last year when the committee picked a 1-loss team from the B1G over a 2-loss team that beat the 1-loss team head to head and won the Conference Title. If you are willing to do that, then you clearly don't really value the "Conference Title" much at all.

Ohio State has 2 wins better than Alabama's best win (Wisconsin and Penn State).

Wrong. I don't care how you try to spin it, but a 45-point win over #16 Michigan Stat is far more impressive than a 14-point win over #17 LSU. Not even close. You can't ignore the margin in this case but then focus entirely on margin when it comes to their loss to Iowa.

Also, their 11-point win at Michigan in Ann Arbor without JT Barrett for a good portion of the game is probably fairly equal to Bama's best win which was by 14 points over LSU at home.

So. Losses to Auburn and Oklahoma even out. Wins over Michigan State and LSU even out. At this point you are down to deciding whether wins over Wisconsin and Michigan State and a 30+ point loss to Iowa are a net positive or negative for Ohio State.

No. You are correct that the losses to Auburn and Oklahoma probably offset. The wins against Michigan State and LSU probably offset, though due to the margin of victory I'd still give the edge to Ohio State there. Ohio State's win over Michigan is also comparable to Bama's win over Mississippi State.

So which is now more playoff worthy once you remove all of those:

*Ohio State beating the #6 and #9 teams; pretty much destroying every other opponent with the exception of one which was a 31-point loss to a 7-5 team.

*Alabama beating no team probably in the Top 30, but beating most of them by a large margin.

I'm sorry, but I'd go with Ohio State and its not even close. Bama's leftover resume reads like a semi decent conference champion from the Sun Belt. Not playoff worthy.

I personally think this was the year to pick UCF

Bama had no true argument with its best win being #17(ucf beat #20 after all....)

Ohio state got blown out by 31 to a 7-5 team

I mean in some ways it should be used as a measuring stick right? Like we saw how the committee reacted to a 2 loss conference champ who had 2 top 10 wins. That was trumped by a 1 loss team who had a really good resume.

This year we have a 2 loss conference champ with 2 top 10 wins. The 1 loss team this year (Bama) didn't have a good resume like OSU did last year.

You and I have gone back and forth respectfully the last few weeks on this. I fully get the Iowa anchor, but as I've said, give me teams who have beaten other good teams rather than teams who have beaten more bad teams

Obvious fear is obvious. Sorry, not sorry your wish for OSU to get "in" was not granted.

Michigan started a guy at QB who probably couldn't beat out Jeremy Johnson at QB. Come on. Not going to penalize Ohio State for grinding out a rivalry win against Michigan, but that offense was a train wreck.

That's fine, and I've said 100 times I would have been ok if we got left out. I just don't see how you can say it's "not even close". But that's fine, we all have opinions.

Yea, like I said, I wouldn't have been upset either way. It would have been a lot easier if the resumes hadn't been such polar opposites with different data points.

There is no easy valuation metric for how to weigh "3 good wins and worst loss ever" vs "1 good win and no bad losses". At some point people just have to pick.

Honestly, if UCF had hammered USF and Memphis and given up 17 and 24 points, I could have been ok with this.

Seeing a team like UCF as the #8 seed is my sole reasoning for wanting to see an 8 team playoff, honestly.

Downtown is neat and I enjoy the old architecture and houses near downtown. It's certainly got a lot of the old Southern town problems (crime, bad public education, etc) in the city itself, but they are trying to revitalize like a lot of places. It certainly has large swaths of totally shitehole, though.

I also just love the Bay, so I'm biased a bit.

A city that direction that I really didn't visit much that I enjoyed a lot recently was Pensacola. They've done a lot of awesome stuff on the water around their new stadium. It's right near our beach house and we just never really went over there.

If Bama is truly unworthy, Clemson will beat them convincingly and another #4 will be exposed.
