I get the shite talk but $2 million is a lot to pay for Pelini as a DC when he hasn't been a DC since 2007.

Looking at his Youngstown State record I can see why he'd want to head back to being a coordinator.

I would rather look at what he did at Nebraska as HC. Overall as an HC, 100-55 record and 4-3 bowl record. Not bad, many guys have done worse as HC's and lets be honest, Nebraska is not the Nebraska of Bob Devaney and Tom O. Youngstown State is lower resource school in a low resource Mizzou Valley league.

That's not how it works. LSU set the DC market with Aranda's salary. And, you think LSU can go back and pay someone to be their DC after Aranda for much less than $2 million? No.

LSU had all the leverage. Offer Pelini $1M a year and he would have taken it. Or he could have stayed at Youngstown State and make $213,000 a year. But why overpay?

bullshite. LSU has no leverage with the quality of offenses and offensive coaches in the SEC now. You must have an elite DC in the SEC if you want to compete.

Well, yeah

No idea you "bide your time" by becoming a HC at a D1 CFB program.Dont have much "time" to do much else.

Most bide their time by becoming a TV or radio personality.

You keep talking about the moneys he was making from Nebraska. That money was gone. Last payment had been made months ago. So Bo was making $213,000 a year from that point on. That's were negotiation starts. Not at what you once made. Not at what the previous coach made after he got raises. Aranda started at $1.5 and was considered the best DC the year LSU hired him. Pelini was considered a good DC 10 years ago.

But spend it while you got it I guess.

He did take them to the championship game in his second year as head coach...

Be careful. Just days ago your fellow LSU fans on the Coaching Change Board were talking about stealing him from Bama while talking shite about Pelini. But I'm sure those post are all being deleted as we speak.

Aranda was doing it for a few years before leaving here

You said the DC's "now"

again, so the top paid DCs are in the $2M-$2.5M range now.

Again,Elko and Steele aren't top "DC's" and are the only DC's in the range along with Venables and now Pellini

The Meathead and the Ogre on same sideline should provide some quality entertainment.

I approve of this message. Pelini is intense and expects his players to play with the same intensity. I look forward to his crazy blitzing as well.

Wait a minute, this can't be right...LSU was going to steal Aggy Elko according to the drooling mouthbreathers on this site by moneywhipping him. How is it possible that they can't take him from Aggy?!

The jury is still out on him due to player injuries. If our defense is healthy and we are struggling Saban has shown he will remove a coordinator (or take their play calling duties which is the same thing as removing them) while the season is going on (Kiffin and Lupoi).

Because he’s been a head coach instead?

And his defenses have been horrid?

In his second year at NEBRASKA he had the #1 Scoring Defense in the fricking country AT NEBRASKA

Did I mention he did this AT NEBRASKA?

They were. I went back to look at the recruiting classes during those years, and there wasn't as much defensive talent as I expected. Pelini's defenses were as good statistically as Aranda's with less talent. This was a good hire.

Yes, I thought I made that clear by saying that's why he's now looking around because Youngstown isn't going to be giving him a massive increase to offset the loss of the Nebraska checks.

quote:

So Bo was making $213,000 a year from that point on.

Hence why he is looking around and accepted a DC job elsewhere.

quote:

That's were negotiation starts.

It started a while ago, do you think we just called him up today making a first offer of $2M, you cant be that dumb, can you?

quote:

Pelini was considered a good DC 10 years ago.

He had 3 elite defenses here and has been a HC ever since, he was never going to come for cheap, it's still $500k less than what we were paying our last DC. You act like he was recently fired guy who made no money as analyst last year on whoever's staff, he wasn't looking to move to take anything. He wanted to likely go back close to what he was making and we'll happily pay him to get him there considering it's still way less than what we were paying our last DC.
