Pelini has been bidding his time waiting to get back to a big program until Nebraska got done paying him. Has anyone seen the absolute shite show Neb is now that he left? What a dumpesterfire. His D's were sick here and I can't wait to see him back in action with all of this ridiculous talent.

His record at Nebraska was pretty damn good. Still shocked they let him go. Husker fans would kill to replicate Bo's results as a HC there.

He was "biding his time" by being a HC at
Youngstown?

Not a bad hire, probably the highest floor guy that’s out there right now. I don’t think he is elite but he should be a solid and consistent coach. I think O was also looking for someone that was gonna be around for awhile also. Pelini is a much better DC than HC and shouldn’t be a risk to jump ship after a year or two.

and was making close to $2M/yr while at Youngstown St. between his pay there and Nebraska payout. I'm sure he wasn't looking for a massive pay cut. This is $500k less a year than what we were paying our previous DC.

LSU had all the leverage. Offer Pelini $1M a year and he would have taken it. Or he could have stayed at Youngstown State and make $213,000 a year. But why overpay?

I really don't know what to think about this one - I'm guessing the floor is pretty high, he's just been out of view for a while.

Congrats.

Uh yes. So he could continue to be paid by Nebraska 150K per month.

He could have had a number of other high paying DC jobs I'm sure, he was biding his time until the Nebraska payout ran out. You are pretty misinformed here, obviously if we offered him $1M/yr he said "thanks, but no thanks". But hey, believe what you want.

So why work at all? Or why not work at a P5 school? His buyout was gonna be decreased by any salary he was making anyway.

You think he was "biding his tims" for 5 years.

So now maybe we only beat Arky by 4 or 5 touchdowns?

Inform me then. Who all was trying to hire Bo Pelini? Because for the past two weeks if you googled Bo Pelini the only rumors were coming from LSU.

LSU can hire and pay whatever they want. Just from a contract point this just seems bad.

Well, yeah. He got to coach his hometown team while having Nebraska foot the bill - no pressure. Sounds cush for Bo and Y State.

I would say it's a lower risk hire. Yes he's had issues as a HC with blow ups and comments that got leaked, but never having a less than 9 win season at Nebraska is not bad.

He's a very good DC, but hasn't worn that hat in a while. He and Venables worked together at OU so they developed a similar defensive philosophy. His D should be good, but we don't know how he will adapt and if he will work well with Coach O. They reportedly are friends, but that doesn't guarantee anything.

Not every single call to every coach gets published, but it was obvious Bo would start looking around now that his payout from Nebraska dried up. Between that and his salary he was making about $1.8M-$1.9M at Youngstown. Again, pretty sure he wasn't just going to accept the first massive pay cut he was offered to leave.

You hjave zero clue what went on behind the scenes, but this didnt all go down in a matter of a day or two. Pelini they were talking to right after Aranda left.

We didn't offer $2M/yr right from the get go, or obviously it probably would have gotten done a while ago. He wa smaking about $1.8M-$1.9M a year, so I'm sure he was looking to make at least that, and knowing what we paid our last DC figured it'd be a high paying job. $1M, $1.5M, $2M, makes really no difference to us, It's a rich program coming off a NC, not sure why you care so much about the money. He's being paid like a top DC as that's what he was before being a HC the last decade+.
