I have long held saxet has always been hampered by the players sense of entitlement.
UT typically doesn't have to recruit so much as decide who to choose from among the kids who wanted to play for them.
Every one who wears the orange jersey was The Man in highschool, pampered and told he was the greatest.
Then they go to Austin where the show amps up an order of magnitude and all of sudden learning, practicing and playing football takes a backseat to everything else going on around them.
The whorns do less with more than any other team.

quote:I'd say entitlement has eaten at the culture of every major football program. But, it's especially highlighted at a place like Texas where you think you've arrived and the logo wins games. Combine that with undeserved media hype, a larger bullseye on your back and feeling extra pressure, and you have what we're seeing now.
do you believe this to be true
That said, Champ's held up his end of the bargain. He seems to be able to see through all of that and coach up his players in such a way that they don't assume they're owed anything. Sark should be picking his brain right about now.

Bijan is probably a bit outdated in his commentary, but I do think every program has a “type” who they tend to attract. Sark/Texas’ type probably isn’t as committed to football as a passion than someone who chooses an OSU, Georgia, or Alabama. That isn’t permanent, but it’s probably been true for 15-20 years.

Yes, it's true. There was a article written about Mac's last years of collapse with similar elements. Texas was always getting plenty of 4/5 star players, but they were more interested in 6th street and partying in the city away from home than playing football.

So Arch's issues are too much partying or getting a new commercial after every bad game he has.

Well, there appears to be a major culture problem at Texas A&M as well. All that money spent on the rosters and coaches, and for what?

Players are pulling more money than their position or strength coaches and folks act like they aren’t supposed to have attitude. Lol

"lesser teams"?
That guy is full of shite. Those teams worked their asses off to prepare to play. I prefer to say those were teams that played with heart, vision and knew how to rise to the ocassion.

It's worse than what Bijan says.
Sark has instilled a shitty culture and worse yet the dumbass actually thinks it's good...

I remember Charlie Strong came in hard with rules and boosters were ready to fire him before he coached a game lol
Aug 2014:
Texas coach Charlie Strong confirms 5 players dismissed, 3 suspended for violation of team rules

Didn't Bijan Robinson get smoked by Arkansas?

It’s a problem everywhere, not just Texas. You have spoiled 18/19 old players, making more money than anyone other than the HC, who don’t give a damn about the school because they have agents and family blowing smoke up their arse and wanting them to transfer for even more money. A program can’t coach them, discipline them.

if the coach can schmooze the boosters.
This is probably a bigger task at Texas and ATM and even Texas Tech and any school in Texas where the boosters are mainly Texans. Texans love the idea of every thing being bigger in Texas....and it includes egos and expectations. I have known some semi-wealthy Texans - not $1 million a year for an offensive lineman wealthy but wealthy enough to be able to do some stupid shite with large sums of money without a care in the world, wealthy enough to travel as much as they pleased or buy as much land as they could want without any plans to do anything with it ever....that sort of wealthy. Everyone of them had a highly inflated image of themselves....I can't imagine this goes away as they get even wealthier and can buy a quarterback. This is true of boosters everywhere BUT I would bet a coca cola that it is worse with Texans than it is with people in Iowa or Alabama....because wealthy people in Iowa and Alabama are kind of serious people....wealthy Texans are anything but....I suspect they gladly donate millions of millions and expect the fact that they have the money to do so makes it obvious that they know more about football than the head coach and fully expect that their demands be met or they will withold their money. Again I do not know this for certain but knowing Texans as I do it wouldn't be surprising that they are worse in Texas than elsewhere because they are Texans.

What would Tommy Nobis say....
The same thing Bijan did - I am signing with the Falcons!!!! Bijan is proving to be more impactful though but those Falcons teams Nobis was on were abysmal. He was a hero of mine as a kid though....
I remember something about an astronaut asking where Nobis had signed while orbiting earth. May be an urban legend though....
