This is probably a bigger task at Texas and ATM and even Texas Tech and any school in Texas where the boosters are mainly Texans. Texans love the idea of every thing being bigger in Texas....and it includes egos and expectations. I have known some semi-wealthy Texans - not $1 million a year for an offensive lineman wealthy but wealthy enough to be able to do some stupid shite with large sums of money without a care in the world, wealthy enough to travel as much as they pleased or buy as much land as they could want without any plans to do anything with it ever....that sort of wealthy.

I never thought about it, but you are probably dead on with your assessment. I grew up around the type of people you are talking about, my dad and older brother worked in the oilfield and owned a well servicing company in Texas. They made really good money with the well servicing company, but earned every single nickel of it with labor; however, the mega rich douches they did the work for that owned the oil wells always needed to be schmoozed and they wanted everything they could get for free no matter how tough the job. Buying a college football player to them is probably just for bragging rights amongst their peers while they treat the people that work for them terrible in a lot of cases. Some were the most unhappy people in their personal lives you could ever meet even though they hit the jackpot in life inheriting all that money from daddy or marrying into it. Never truly worked and they'd drink themselves to death every night at bars, working on their 3rd or 5th failed marriage , etc. Most of the ones I met that married into it only married for the money and hated their wife and in laws, or was just the whipping boy.

They had no purpose in life other than just wanting people to kiss their butt and make them feel important because of their last name and what they could buy. Their kids were even worse growing up, some genuinely spoiled brats that nobody could stand.

The town I grew up in in Texas was famous at one point for having the most millionaires per capita of anywhere in the world, I met and knew a lot of them personally from working for my dad and older brother's company through the years. My family pretty much worked all over West Texas in the oilfield.
