Biggest home field advantage in SEC

Looking at games against ranked opponents only… comparing home winning % to road winning % and taking the difference… since the 1980s
1. Florida (25.1%)
53.4% home win% vs 28.3% road win%
2. LSU (16.2%)
42.6% home win% vs 26.4% road win%
3. Auburn (13.6%)
40.7% home win% vs 27.1% road win%
4. Alabama (9.9%)
51.4% home win% vs 41.5% road win%
5. Tennessee (3.4%)
31.0% home win% vs 27.6% road win%
6. Georgia (1.7%)
39.6% home win% vs 37.9% road win%
I only looked at the Big 6.
If you take out the ‘80s and ‘90s and just look at the same data but since 2000, LSU and Auburn both move up a spot to #1 and #2, respectively. Bama moves into the 3-spot. Florida falls to #4. Georgia moves up to #5. And Tennessee moves to last as they have zero home field advantage (same win% for both home and away).
This proves what I said yesterday in the post about stadium atmospheres… LSU and Auburn have the best, and Florida is up there with them when they are good.

I truly respect UF’s game experience. The fact that LSU owns them there doesn’t change that. It’s a great venue. I hate it.

LSU was far and away the best. I went when South Carolina played in 2012 and it was unbelievable. Auburn was loud in 2010, but I didn't see a huge difference in their stadium compared to A&M/Tennessee/SC etc.

Your analysis is flawed because it rewards poor performance on the road. Alabama can’t help that we have the mental toughness to win more away from home. All that should matter is the home winning percentage.
You could use the same data to say who are the worst road teams.

Except that home field advantage is considered when setting the spread.

Like your analysis for the most part.
Although, it doesn't account for teams that have managed to win AT the tougher venues (UF, Aub, LSU), but STILL had a very tough time and or eked out wins there.)
In other words, the W/L record doesn't tell the whole story. :) But I realize it would be hard to guage that matrix. :)

LSU, Auburn, and UF are all amazing atmospheres to experience a game. Especially when UF was at their prime.

It's interesting that Alabama has a better record against ranked opponents on the road than 3 of the other 5 do against them at home.

You are correct, but if you look at just win% against Top 10 teams, LSU is still #1 in advantage and Auburn is #2 since 2000. Same top two as Top 25 advantage.

End of season. At time of game is not an accurate measurement because a lot of Preseason Top 25 teams were never really close to being a true Top 25 team.

You are absolutely correct on this, but finding historical games spreads is a difficult task. And even if I did have access to them it would be very time consuming to figure.

Not sure why this was downvoted. The data presented demonstrates discrepancies between home and away performances but can’t explain if the discrepancies are due to better or worse than expected home performances or better or worse than expected road performances.
Analyzing the home performances when the teams were the favorites and when they were the underdogs might provide more insight into which teams perform above expectations in their home stadiums.
I don’t think road performance really matters when considering home field advantage. If Jordan Hare is a tough place to play, it doesn’t matter if Auburn wins or loses tough road games. Certainly, teams don’t come into the stadium thinking about that. But, if Auburn wins as a home underdog more often than they should, visiting teams are definitely thinking about that.
Analyzing the home performances when the teams were the favorites and when they were the underdogs might provide more insight into which teams perform above expectations in their home stadiums.
