This plays into this.

If the committee leaves out the SEC runner up, you best believe that Sankey and the SEC office will let it be known that they will not be re-upping with the CFP.

SEC will then look to create their own playoff with the BIG X

The CFP needs the SEC to be happy.

We have 3 loss teams playing for a NC. This just seems off.

Bama is going to the Citrus, Gator or Outback.

...and they'll probably lose to another mediocre big 10 team again.

There are no divisions anymore. The two best teams in the conference played tonight.

So it is odd but you have other SEC teams that weren’t good enough to make the SECCG in the CFP, so you almost have to let Bama in or keep them all out.

Maybe the SEC shouldn't have put a lower ranked team with more losses in over two other higher ranked candidates

SEC Runner Up usually doesn’t have 3 losses including one to a 5-7 FSU squad

The purpose of CFP is to figure out who the national champion should be. It’s not meant to be a prize in itself. We already know Bama is not good enough to be champion so there’s no point in them being there.

I'm not as convinced as you are, but this is definitely the reason why Bama makes it in (if we do).

I think it has more to do with keeping Disney/ESPN happy than with keeping the SEC happy though. ESPN does not want the SECCG to go away. It is big money. EVERY SEC SCHOOL will vote to eliminate the SECCG if it starts costing the runner up a playoff spot.

Yes. Even your school, mad opposing fan.

You could easily say this about 9 teams out of the 12 but you guys wanted an expanded playoff to 12 teams or more. This is what you get. Enjoy

Truth. With 16 teams and only a 8 game conference schedule a much better team can have a worse record due to hard schedule and a good but not great team make the conference title game but not necessarily be the best or 2nd best

Luck of schedule draw has a lot to do with it

With no divisions, the SEC now puts in the two teams with the best conf record. All the tie breakers are based on SOS, so Bama got in with 1 conf loss because they played and beat better teams than OM or Aggie did.

So the two teams with the best conf record played tonight.

After their performance tonight, I think LSU or Kentucky could beat them. Cant run and QB isn't playing well anymore.

As an aside, I think the SECCG needs to evolve to a play-in game for teams on the bubble. No reason to have the best two teams play anymore. I would have rather seen Vandy vs Texas.

Most SEC Cg lovers have historically received a lower tier bowl than other SEC teams that didn't make the SecCG.

You can easily let in Ole Miss and A$M and toss Bama
