Starting next season:
SEC: B10:
OU USC
Texas UCLA
A&M Oregon
Mizzou Washington
Arkansas Nebraska
SC Rutgers/Maryland

2 observations:
1. The SEC has the edge on the additions.
2 B10 really went full tard on their geographic adds.

I don’t think the B1G has a great long-term strategy. From a revenue perspective, it’s about creating intriguing match-ups that people will tune in to watch (or pay to stream). The SEC still makes geographic sense (mostly). Who is going to watch Rutgers-UCLA or Washington-Maryland outside of die-hard fans of those schools? Which in the case of Rutgers or UCLA, there are none.

I never got how these tree hugging administrations decided it is now ok to double or triple the amount of fuel their teams are going to need to travel across the country.

Well first of all, viewing the timeline makes for a better assessment:

1990s additions:

SEC: Arkansas, South Carolina
B1G: Penn State

2011-2014 additions:

SEC: Texas A&M, Mizzou
B1G: Nebraska, Rutgers, Maryland

2024 additions:

SEC: Oklahoma, Texas
B1G: USC, UCLA, Washington, Oregon

It's bad enough for the 2-3 cross country flights you will make in football each year, but I keep thinking of how the other sports are going to handle this. That USC @ Rutgers mid-week basketball game is going to be a bitch. Not to mention the non-revenue sports trying to figure out how to make it work.

This is how I would rank them using AP Poll finish ALL TIME LINK

It is close, the Big got 4 and the SEC got 4 top 25 programs.

3-OU
6-USC
8-Texas
8-Nebraska
18-UCLA
20-Arkansas
21- A&M
22-Washington

Non-Top 25
Oregon (Current Success, better get than SC and Mizzou)
SC
Mizzou

Maryland
Rutgers/

I love SC, but why do they get ranked above us if AP polls are your criteria? Mizzou is better historically and has had more success in the SEC. Mizzou finished the season ranked 20 times to South Carolina's nine times.

CBS can now run games all day long.

It was all about the TV revenue and exposure.

The B1G got the better of the deal. It will be a nationwide conference while the SEC will be stuck as a regional league. Plus the B1G is likely to expand south.

No specific order past the top 25, You are 100% correct that Mizzou would be above USCe. (Not really close)

Mizzou 262 weeks in AP Poll, USC 191

Mizzou has been to the SEC Championship Game unlike USC.
Mizzou owns the series 9-5
Conference Championships 12 -1
Bowl Games 35-25
Consensus All American 13-4
Heismans is the only areas where USC has a lead 1-0.

When you look at it that way, the BIG has done a better job.

Adding Rutgers and Maryland is where it first went a little bit off the rails for the Big 10. Like the SEC taking OU and Texas, this was mostly a defensive move, in that the Big 10 was worried that Penn State might look elsewhere (apparently there had been some assurances made that the conference would add other Eastern schools so that PSU would not be such an outlier). But, after the SEC adds OU and Texas, the Big 10 decides to throw out most of their historic criteria, and go chasing brands, geography be damned.

The Big 10 now is like an unstable element on the periodic chart. You know it's not going to last in this same shape for too long, and just hope it doesn't wreck everything else in the process.

How so?

1990's additions National Titles (SEC Gained 43 Titles)
SEC: Arkansas (38) 1 Basketball, 7 Mens Cross Country, 14 Mens Indoor T&F, 9 Mens Outdoor T&F, 1 Womens Cross Country, 4 Womens Indoor T&F, 2 Womens Outdoor T&F

SEC: South Carolina (5) 2 baseball, 2 Womens Basketball, 1 Womens Outdoor T&F

Big Ten: Penn State (23) Mens Gymnastics 3, Mens Volleyball 2, Wrestling 10, Womens Soccer 1, Womens Volleyball 7

The 2011-2014 additions lean SEC as well. Rutgers & Maryland? Not exactly known for much. Nebraska has won 2 national titles in womens volleyball since it joined the Big 10.

It did. The SEC gained little out of its footprint while the B1G took in the entire west coast.

I cannot wait for Oregon to get spanked every year in the BIG 10. No more 1 loss regular seasons due to a cupcake PAC 12 schedule. I also think they will see less 5/4 star recruits pick them due to the traveling the have to do all season.
