I played and/or coached for 30 years. Ask any front court player with higher level experience about playing around the rim in a loosely refereed, physical game when every shot's contested and very few whistles are blown, and he'll tell you that there are NO bunnies!
Also, as the game wears on, you start expecting to get a body shot and/or slapped on your shot, and you lose your shot rhythm.

You just gave about five different scenarios as to why a player misses a layup. From poor refereeing, physical play under the board, loss of rhythm or lack of confidence, or pure abuse by the defense. You are thinking in terms of a big man under the basket, but most layups are from driving ballhandlers who miss the shot by shooting it too hard or failure of placing it on the backboard or not using the backboard at all. A driving Guard has three considerations when driving to the basket: 1. driving all the way to the basket and attempting a layup 2. Stopping short of the basket and shooting a short jumper 3. Dishing the ball off either under the basket, lob over the defense or pushing it outside for an open shot. That is why a layup requires concentration and lack of indecision. That is why AU missed many of their layups last night. That is something that is not coached.

Jabari Smith is looking like a busts imo.

He needs to decide what he’s going to do in the pros, whether it be driving or shooting and get elite at it.

Right now he’s good at both, but not great at either. He’s going to be an average pro if he doesn’t get one to elite status sooner than later.

The same stuff was said about Durant coming out of Texas. Jabari has his same size. Durant was better at shooting 2's but Jabari was better at shooting 3's.

Welcome to Bruce Pearl. 1 or 2 NBA starters on all his teams going back to UWM and nothing to show for it. He's great at promoting, taking his shirt off in the student section at the Iron Bowl, great against a mediocre schedule but buckles when the chips are on the table.

More to show for it in his short tenure than you updykes have produced. Weren't you guys supposed to be big time this season? We beat you in your house and in Auburn. You washed out in one round. I can sort of understand the Arkies crowing, but you losers? Nope.

Last night wasn't really a continuation of our going cold over the last 45 days IMO, it was a separate collapse altogether. That's the most frustrating part for me. We were on borrowed time in the tournament (like in 19) because we'd just peaked too early and were consistently struggling.

AU was dominant early but benefitted from an easy schedule and looked pedestrian away from home. The best SEC team they played twice was UA who was 6 seed in the SECT. They beat UK at home and didnt have to play at Rupp and played UT and Ark 1x away and lost both games. Point is this team was good but not great and was smoke and mirrors shielded by a strong home court and a weak schedule.

Go back and rewatch the game, clown!
Your bigs (Smith, Kessler & co.) were the players having the most trouble at the rim, AND even at that, drives down the lane or from the baseline were fiercely contested.
Also, I didn't say poor refereeing, I said loose refereeing (big difference), AND that can lead to a very physical game, especially in the paint.
Your attempt to explain the "options" of a driving guard indicate that you watch basketball, but you haven't spent time(outside the playground) on the court in a higher level of play (uniforms and all! )!

Look at the games they lost and the score. Two in OT, one by one point , one by 5 and another by 6 points to A&M in the SECT. It wasn't about an easy schedule, it wasn't about a home court advantage or a weak league. It was about having two really good players who had a bad night. When one had a poor night the other could compensate. Both were off against Miami.

Wow- triggered. At least you have Spring football to look forward to, quit pretending to be be a basketball fan to mask your sorrow and anxiety from having a pitiful football program.

I played BB in HS at a pretty High level, turned down an opportunity at JC and played it in the Military after college against former College Athletes. I know the game and not the game you are used to with high top Chuck Taylor's and white guys shooting set shots.

If you know anything about Smith, you would know he doesn't play around the rim. Kessler has been pushed away from the rim and baseline for the last 12 games. His problem is he has had problems with his back to the basket. Miami did not invent that Defense against him.

Not an all star, but at a level higher than most of the fat rednecks who played during PE and watched Sports Center for their education.

Miami brought a fast, aggressive dense (particularly their guards) and destroyed AU. They pushed AU's offense almost back to half court at times and they attacked passes into the paint with defenders and closed AU's passing lanes. Bruce wouldn't adjust and didn't get his players focused. It was obvious AU didn't have anywhere close to the energy level Miami had in that game. Overall it was a dang good season, they just seemed to wilt towards the end.

Miami did pressure the Guards higher up and force poor passes to the wings. However, Smith and Kessler did get touches, but didn't make shots. Most were high percentage shots but just didn't fall. I think they were 3-22.

Don't watch basketball very much?

Or by "his short tenure" are you throwing everything else out to just mean that one Final Four appearance in eight years?

...because of the physical, aggressive defense being played on them, many times with multiple defenders!..DUH!
How many times did you hear the announcer say, "it seems like The Canes have 7 or 8 men out there on defense?"
Just give it up, Amelia.
