The SEC has the best individual talent in the Country, but has very average teams. There were really on 4 worthy SEC Teams in the NCAAT and once that happens it is all about matchups. Ark will put an end to CBB for SEC Teams this weekend, which is a sad commentary for the league.

That’s the problem with all our flavor of the month coaches. They can’t win in March.

One team was disciplined and had a great plan.

The other ran around like chickens with their heads cut off throwing shots at the rim and panicking once things got dicey and didn't make a single adjustment. It worked in 2019 when all the crazy shots went in, but outside of that it's been pretty ugly in the postseason for Pearl.

Flavor of the month vs big time coach, nailed it.

Games like this happen.
This game didn't just happen. Miami's quick, aggressive defense, especially their guards, destroyed Auburn.
They were pushing Auburn's offensive almost back to half court at times, literally attacked passes into the paint with multiple defenders, and effectively closed down Auburn's passing lanes. The difference in the energy levels of the two teams was stunning.

That is bullshite. Bruce is not a flavor of the month coach. 4 Sweet 16s, 2 Final 8 and 1 Final 4. There are three legit coaches in the SEC and Bruce is one of them.

Looked pretty accurate to me. Auburn was outclassed and out schemed last night, much like they were by Clemson in 2018.

The 2019 team made all their wild and crazy shots, props to them, but every other year at Auburn Bruce's teams have either not made the tournament or been taken out early by a team that out schemed them.

Classic fruit of the month coaching style.

One of those Sweet 16s was literally at a mid-major fruit of the month school

He went to 3 Sweet 16s in 4 years at UWM and his first 3 years at Tennessee when he ran a unique style.

Since then.....
- 10 seasons
- 1 Final Four
- 1 Elite 8
- 4 first weekend exits
- 4 missed tournaments

80% of the time he teams don't advance past the 1st weekend. Catches lightning in the bottle 20% of the time and makes a run.

Sorry, that's some lightning in a bottle flavor of the month type stuff right there.

That's a pretty good record.

And you just described what most teams deal with in the tournament

Hey, I'm not the one who created the Fruit of the Month coach criteria here. Take it up with the CEO.

Really? He took over the worst major Conference Program in the country thanks to Tony Barbee and within 3 years had them at 18-14, 26-8, 30-10, 25-6 and 28-6. Everyone knows what happen last year (13-18). This in a league that doesn't produce one team for the tournament. With your knowledge of BB, no wonder you defend Oats.

In years 4-9 at Auburn, after the rebuild was complete, he had multiple top 4 seed teams get blown out in the first weekend of the tournament. Guess that is Tony Barbee's fault? Again, this is fruit of the month type performance.

Auburn sucked and you desperately tried to find a way to act like it didn't count?

Fruit of the Month club member Nate Oats won his 2nd round game as a 2-seed, SEC Champion last year by 19 points over 10 seed Maryland.

SEC Legend Bruce Pearl lost his 2nd round game as a 2-seed, SEC Champion last night by 18 points to 10 seed Miami.

I'm sure your perspective on the situations would be exactly the same if the results had been switched!

It will haunt Bruce. He knows better than anyone how much potential that team had and that they only achieved maybe 70% of it. When it came time to find that tournament gear, they couldn't find it.

They were a fun team to watch during their upward arc, but you could see them searching for that next gear and not finding it during the last part of the season. Had they found it, they would have been a Final Four team, and the path was pretty easy.

But it didn't happen. Learn, reload, and get ready for next year.

Covid and a very water downed NCAAT. It is his only NCAAT Sweet 16 Appearance. The poster child for FOTM.

As we all know, you almost worry when you play great in January because you know how hard it is to sustain it and that it is inevitably means you will probably lose it before March.

Sucks, but it happens to everyone.

There were certainly no 2022 Miamis in the 2021 NCAA Tournament

Bruce Pearl went to 1 Sweet 16 in his first 2 seasons with a NCAA Tournament at Tennessee. What a FOM bum!
