But why would they? Do you blame them? They clearly are thinking much further ahead than one year - without Gus.

This. Either you support your coach or you don't. It's almost like they're punishing Malzahn.

called their bluff? Didn't he agree to reduce his buyout?

He was considering it but it seems like it never actually happened.

So that is how he called their bluff.

Auburn knows Gus will not give up control, so why give someone a multi year deal when Gus will be the OC.

I don't think they're punishing Gus, I think they know that a new OC is wallpapering over problems he created and they're willing to waste 1-1.5 million on that lost cause, but not 2-3 million.

Of course, the reasonable thing to do would be to go ahead and can him, but we can't.

Didn't Gus's renegotiated deal also prevent him from spending any more money on coaching staff? They've handcuffed Gus. Setting up the whole program for failure.

Yeah, I've seen nothing but articles talking about how he *may* agree to the reduced buyout. You'd think if he actually did agree, that it would be out there.

They're forcing him to quit so they don't have to pay the buyout.

That's painfully clear. He should just say "frick it" and keep coaching while handcuffed until they are forced to fire him.

The situation down there right now is as toxic as any I have ever seen.

Agreed. They better be careful. Cleaning up a toxic situation can take years and many coaches. We're all seeing the world of hurt that is FSU football these days.

98, 2003, 2008, and 2012 were pretty bad too.

Sounds like they're doing the same thing that Bama did to Curry to get him to leave.
yeah, it is apparently....its also a chickenshit way to do it...this is laid right at the feet of the cabbagehead for a president and two filthy rich boosters, one a damn BOT member...disgraceful and shitty thing to try to do to a decent man that committed no crime....i want malzahn gone as soon as his hire was announced, so i am not a supporter of him....i am,although, a person that stands by the premise that good people should not be mistreated and disgraced....32 million is what was promised by these 3 people, and they should honor it

Gus should have told them to get fricked when they came at him to reduce his buyout.

Yeah just the fact that the story was they wanted the buyout reduced shows that those in charge know the buyout is too big to handle.

It was an easy bluff to call.

He cant be recruiting at this point right?

This isnt just going to cost AU next season, it will set them back for years to come if this is really how they plan to deal with the situation.
