That said often times a new coach can generate buzz and excitement and I would argue the Harsin hire hasn't really done that. Especially not with recruits.

Yeah, but buzz and excitement doesn't necessarily translate to a good hire. There have been some recent SEC hires recently that did create some short term buzz and excitement, but there's no sign that's going to lead to any long term success.
Give he and his staff a chance to connect with and get in front of these kids...and for god's sake let's get them back to the campus visits.

If we are having this discussion next December, then I will join you in the concern. I'm just happy we didn't hire some fricking Jay Jacobs retread this time.

Good article really and a lot of truth even if Auburn fans don't want to admit it. This guy gets it.

Not at all really.

He acts like we won’t hold Harsin to the same standard as Gus which everyone knows is bullshite. Will we hold Year 1 Harsin to the same standard as Year 8 Gus? Of course not because that’s ridiculous.

No one expected Harsin to come in and have instant clout with recruits to be able to pull in a top 5 or 10 class immediately. Especially given that he was hired after the first signing day...

He gets a pass on this class because what the frick is he supposed to do when most recruits are already signed?

Also says we lost out to UK on a LB. Well we didn’t keep the coach that recruited him and was the reason he was coming here so not that surprising. What was Harsin supposed to do? Keep a coach he didn’t think fit to sign one linebacker? Was that one linebacker going to drastically effect our program?

Awww, little feller thinks I'm angry...

I'm sorry you are too big of a troll to have a real discussion. You should try it sometime.

Yep - but there aren't any steaming hot takes in that type of article. My guess is he basically wrote that article, then realized it wouldn't light up the switchboard, so he haphazardly threw in some red meat.

Joseph Goodman is always trying to be the "edgy" beat writer. He and Jay G. Tate. Neither of them know shite about shite. They are just message board readers like the rest of us. Who knows... could be right but it will be total luck if so. He has no more insight into the program than my 10-year old lap dog terrier.

Ahh, there's that "local media hates Auburn because they have nicer articles about Alabama" logic.

Yeah it's sort of the reason the last guy was fired. The things people get paid to write...

Are we really judging a guy on a recruiting class in which he showed up on campus after early signing day? In the middle of a pandemic? With very few ties to the region?

If Auburn finishes #30 in recruiting next year - time to panic. But this year? Good lord that is simple minded.

Yep. It is kind of sad. Does it suck not having a top 10 class? Sure, but none of that is Harsin's fault.

If there was ever a class that it would hurt the least to have small numbers and not a stellar class, it is this year. With the transfer rules and the pending scholarship bottleneck that will happen after next year, the negative consequences of this class are fairly minimal compared to most years.

This article doesn't even mention our biggest issue which is complete lack of quality on the OL.

Of all AU's problems, this is the one that causes the most concern, and it's the #1 reason why I believe AU is about to lose some games. You can't be bad in the trenches and compete in this conference.

Goodman made it clear in the article that he wasn't interested in logic or common sense to help explain the circumstances of the barners lousy recruiting cycle.

So Goodman gets his own thread on the Rant about such a stupid conclusion. Sounds about right.

that's cool and all but philosophy isn't going to help on the recruiting trail and it won't impress the people that pay his salary if he doesn't produce

We did get an OL recruit on NSD, which we haven't in a few years thanks to Ballzahn

Harsin is used to working with 3* talent anyway, so it might just work out for Auburn - you never know. Our entire OL that just graduated were 3*'s for example

Harsin was dealt a harsh hand and has done about the best he can do thus far. Auburn fans will have a better read on him this time next year after seeing his '22 recruiting class and how well he developed the roster Gus left him...

He pretty much said he wasn't going to fill out the class because he's going hard in the transfer portal.
