Maybe he did honestly just fall asleep and this is just a random tragedy.

My guess the teen could have been travelling as low as 40 - 50 mph to cause the fatality.

These 2 things don't make sense to me. The police report already said he was traveling "well over the posted speed limit" which on SJP is 55. And I think the kid said he fell asleep to try and mitigate the charge. No way he was going that fast on the verge of going to sleep. My guess is that he was high and hauling arse.

Such a sad situation. I have teenaged boys and I cannot imagine what his parents are going through, let alone the kid when he came to. His life is ruined.

as someone who has blacked out on the interstate for 10 to 15 seconds before and woke back up and was going 110 - it could happen. not saying the MJ did or did not have an impact, but the idea that he could have blacked out is plausible.

hope all parties find peace in the ordeal.

Could be. And on a long stretch of interstate highway I might agree with you, but Shug Jordan Parkway has stop light every 1/2 mile to a mile or so. I have no idea what happened of course, just seems like something a kid would say to try and absolve himself of such a horrible crime

My point I was making is not my estimate of what speed he was going at the time of the accident, but that going at a slower speed still could result in a fatality, due to the angle of the impact and the fact that the Toyota Highlander head restraints appear average at best.

I think most understand the point you’re making. It’s not something I would have even considered until you brought it up. Do you have a background in this field?

He may have an undiagnosed seizure disorder, but if he does, it'll come out soon enough.

You sound like an old frick stuck under a rock. The actual speed is still in question, it’s all speculation. What is “well over the posted speed limit” anyways? It’s extremely plausible that if he fell asleep his body weight could have slumped him forward, including his right foot. As far as weed in his system goes, that could be anywhere from as old as a month. There’s no definitive science to prove he fell asleep due to impairment.

How awful. So many lives effected by one poor decision to drive while under the influence

I am not an advocate for marijuana in any way but if what I heard is correct it can stay in your system for up to 30 days. If that’s true then while in his system he may not have been under the influence.

it won't matter. the "legalize now" crowd will still deny that toking is harmful in any way.

Now let's legalize this harmless drug everywhere so people can drive while drugged up.

Not really, other than being involved in the auto industry and being involved with enough car safety issues.
You can simply watch for yourself a handful of videos and learn quickly how things can go wrong for such an accident.
this video shows a crash test dummy reaction at 20 mph
To me, one of the most alarming problems in this accident is that it was slightly off center, possibly causing the Brambletts heads to miss the head restraints entirely.

Amazing people don't understand the absurd amount of energy when something weighing 3800 pounds hit something standing still at 25 miles an hour...

You can get a DUI for MJ. If they blood tested him, he gone.

I don't think so. Weed stays in your system for weeks, and unless someone can present solid evidence that the kid was under the influence of it, that won't stick.
I'm seeing a huge lawsuit, but doubtfully jail time, unless there's info that the public's not aware of yet.

May not have been 'under the influence'. The high could have worn off hours before, or maybe days, and marijuana will still show up in your system.
Not defending, just pondering.

What good will prison do? It will make a criminal out of him. He needs to pay restitution and do a lot of community service and speak at schools about the dangers of DUI.

What sends a stronger message to kids: knowing that a kid is in prison because he drove high and killed 2 people, or seeing that kid doing community service for a few weekends, and knowing in the back of your mind that there won’t be any real consequences for anything you do while you’re a “kid?”

common sense dictates he wasn't going three to five miles over the speed limit.

Looks like he was going 89-91. THC to me is irrelevant at this point. If you’re going to choose to drive at 16, you need to be prepared for the responsibility that comes with that.
