I find this argument lazy. He clearly still understands the current game.

Agreed. I think he's one of the few that keeps tinkering and tweaking to adjust to new developments.

He may be an arse (I don't know him), but that man can coach football.

My personal feelings regarding our current situation are as follows:

If we don't have a TOP TIER level coach that wants the job, I want Petrino to run the show. I don't want any young up and comers because if that's the route were going we wont be winning shite.

He's the only coach in my 35+ years of life that made Arkansas a legitimate threat to win it all. I always felt that he is leaps and bounds better than most coaches in CFB.

Now his success, as well as any other coach, is dependent on NIL funds.

It could be a perfect scenario where he takes a significantly smaller coaching contract in order for the NIL to be maximized at U of A. If you give him the means to get an above average squad, I truly believe we would be in the playoffs.

Arky fans should be singing this Henley song now with slightly altered lyrics:

Out on the road today, I saw a Hog with Bobby and a blonde on back,
A little voice inside my head said, “Don't look back, you can never look back”
I thought I knew what Coach was, what did I know?
Those days are gone forever, I should just let them go but

[Chorus]
I can see you, your red skin burning in the lights,
You got your cap pulled down and microphones on, Bobby,
I can tell you, your coaching skills will still be strong
After the days of Pit Boss have gone.

Trying to understand why Petrino would even be considered. Fans hoping he’s Bill Snyder 2.0 or the preacher from pale rider.

Bunch of talking heads in this thread that are out of touch on Petrino.

I’m in his camp and hope the players produce on the field for him to retain the job. I get his age is a problem for some but he has something the others don’t and that’s his passion to correct a wrong. Those are his words, not mine…

This. I don't want Petrino to get the full time job and think he's a bad fit for this day and age of CFB with NIL, transfer portal, revenue sharing, etc. He just isn't cut out for the modern game and can't recruit on top of that

But, BUT... This team is better off with him at the helm than Pittman and I'm 100x more confident in the coaching staff not allowing slouching. It's a rare case of the interim coach being a step in the right direction instead of just a gap filler until the next guy comes in, BP will have this team playing better than they were

It will either go great and Arkansas gets on a roll or it will be a spectacular failure. I don’t think there is any middle ground with Petrino

Interesting bc I think it will go squarely down the middle. I see us playing close/chance of winning Tennessee, Auburn, MSU, Mizzou and I think we get blown out by LSU, A&M and Bama

If hired, he has to be tops among all-time for most different HC stops at the least amount of schools.

All relatively close geographically, too

Pittman was the opposite of "stop gap". He was an offensive line coach your AD decided to hire as the head coach of an SEC team. He went out and got his man. That's rolling the dice or laying it all on black.

A stop gap coach would be one to hold the fort down for a couple years, get back to middle of the road just to have a chance to hire a good coach in a couple years...ala Matt Luke at Ole Miss.

This is going to blow your mind but Matt Luke was an offensive line coach.
