Some of the non P4 teams live for those bowls. MAC vs Sun Belt etc.
I think some bowls like Citrus etc survive. But say goodbye to the funny name bowls for P4 teams.

Hopefully you'll be gone, just like the bowl games.
So I see that you joined this place in 2007.... that makes sense.

not many would miss them now with all the opt outs and transfers that happen before they are even played
just turn opening week into a showcase with quality games rather than the ridiculous opponents most teams play these days

Honestly, if you’re 9-3 in the SEC (and even some 8-4 teams), you will get in. If you have a worse record than that you don’t deserve to play in the postseason.

Every bowl-eligible team not in the CFP wants to play in any of the Pop-Tarts/Famous Idaho Potato/Duke's Mayo Bowl.
The Radiance Technologies Independence Bowl not so much.

I’m talking about 6-6 and 7-5 teams playing each other you retards.

Even back in 2014 and 2015 Bowl games have been played in stadiums that are 70%+ empty with tickets on sale the day before kickoff for $5.

It might be two 5-7 teams like our Belk Bowl last year but they can find a team to play. Some won't make money and I don't know where the list stops or what the plans are for using the bigger bowls in the playoff but non-playoff bowls will continue. Some will surely die, though.
Who cares?

The Bowl "system" was created largely by ESPN in the early cable era, largely as a money grab. Why so many treat it as ancient holy writ is beyond me.
Prior to ESPN, the few bowls there were, were where conference champions met. A playoff is closer to that than the polygot mess we've endured the last 40 years.

i doubt it. It still gives ESPN much better ratings than whatever they put on in place of it. That's why they are still around.

Yet viewership and revenues are at all-time highs.
Time for the boomers to drift off into the sunset.

It was cool when we played Iowa in the Outback Bowl about 10 years ago because some of Iowa's players had never seen the ocean in person.
