cause Blacks didn't enslave, whip, and lynch whites while calling them redneck for damn near three centuries.

uh yeah, he should have said "n-word". It's not news that you can't use that word if you're not black under any circumstance.
That’s the f***ing problem right there. If these bullshite double standards weren’t accepted in this “climate” then our society wouldn’t have half the problems we have right now.

Neither did American whites. How about the blacks that brought their own over and sold them? What did they call them while they were enslaving, whipping and lynching them? I'd take bets it wasnt "my brother" or anything close to a term of endearment.
The word only has power as long as people allow it to. It says more about the weak mindedness of the one offended than the one using it to offend. If the person saying it is so ignorant and not worth the time of day, why give them the power of insulting you with a trivial word?
Who decides who's okay to say it and whos not? If the word is so demeaning and shameful, why call each other the word with every sentence? Why are some whites "down" enough to get a pass yet others aren't? That same "down" white is ok to say it to his group of friends but yet another group or individual may take offense so then who decides if he is allowed or not allowed? His friends or the one offended? Do they get mad at each other or is it just a blanket thing where if one is offended then all are? Makes sense to me if a word is so harmful and disgusting that it would be stricken from all of our vocabulary , especially those so offended by it.

2020 is off the rails. Words are bad, flags are bad, statues are mean. Masks are good. Virus is bad.

Or that slavery is alive in well in Africa today.

Cracker and honkey are racist, but redneck is a good description for an unlikeable portion of society.

How long ago was this? Time for victim mentality pussies to move on.
Way less time than black people were allowed to go school with white people.
And what victim mentality??
Slavery- Share cropping- red lining-
voter suppression- samcro- bank loan denials based on race- lynching- segregation- privatized prison systems
These are all things that REALLY happened. 50 years isn't very long.
Native Americans experienced genocide and received sovereign land. Jewish people experience it and receive financial reparations. Japenese people who were held in camps ON American soil during the war also received reparations. What did black people get? Don't be a racist smart arse and say welfare because POOR people of ALL races are on welfare. Don't say affirmative action because this applies to any one who isn't a white male.
You don't have to agree, but the fact of the matter is wealth is a thing that is passed down through generations. Psychological trauma is also a thing that can be passed down. Black people only received the latter.
Black people call each other the n-word for the same reason women call each other the b-word and gay people call eaxh other the f-word( believe me they do), oppressed groups take slurs and turn them into terms of endearment to remove the power and pain.
Your daughters best friend may say( what ever b-word!) To her, that doesn't mean she would be okay with you saying it to her.
Yes I am black. Down vote to your hearts content. I have said my piece.

quote:it annoys me when people use this to rationalize slavery. African KINGS (most kings and queens are assholes, ask the "pilgrims") sold people from OTHER tribes in exchange for GUNS so they could fight OTHER KINGS and TRIBES. Just about every king did this to other tribes...so they could get guns...so they could fight OTHER KINGS...because history has shown us that kings and queens only care about keeping and growing POWER. They didn't care about selling people from other tribes...as long as they received Guns...so they could keep POWER...no one says this about the holocaust. They were ALL german right??? Non-jewish Germans committed genocide against German Jewish people so it's okay? No!! Wrong is wrong! Yes African kings sold Africans and the Dutch bought and sold them to most of the world. America committed great atrocities against its people, who at one point were legally NOT people. Only 3/5s of a person....what do you have besides that weak arse argument??
How about the blacks that brought their own over and sold them?

Blacks love that word. They fricking love it.
They call each other the word unnecessarily 7-8 times in a sentence. People they love, people they like, people they hate, people they don’t know; everyone.
It’s in their music. Damn near every black song that comes out now has that word plastered in it at least 20 times.
So don’t tell me blacks don’t want to hear the word. That’s a load of bullshite. Blacks fricking love the word. I’m not sure they can live without that word.

People need to stop thinking a word by itself is bad and start understand it has to do with context and use of the word.
“Shutup you stupid n;(&&er”
And
“Stop saying the word n;)$er”
Are 2 totally different sentences and contexts. One is racist, one is not racist.

If blacks weren't allowed to say "****" rap music would cease to exist. As would a littany of other entertainment mediums.
Patterson could have had a little more tact with the issue but he's a football coach, he gets to the point and moves on. The player needs a good reality check with his own language.

No one is calling him a racist. It’s the lack of judgement that got him in trouble.

They aren’t accepted - not fully anyways.
You people who always try to call out this “double standard” obviously only hang out with redneck white people. There are a ton of black people who don’t use the word and don’t like when anyone uses the word. Why do you think the coach was trying to stop it from being said?

This is typical racist propaganda, but I’ll bite.
As another poster pointed out. They were originally traded by African royalty. However, the demand that resulted in the mass slave trade was largely from whites.
Also, I’m pretty sure if someone from Africa visiting America said the word to an African American, it wouldn’t be seen as acceptable, so your whole unoriginal point is nonsense.

Was it?
Maybe thats because all of the statistical evidence comes from majority white countries.
No one kept very many statistics on African, Central American, or Native American slavery.

That’s still not a racial slur. It’s mean and uncalled for, but different. There are racial slurs for people with white skin. Redneck isn’t one of them.
I'm not taking sides in the Patterson argument, but you're delusional if you think redneck isn't a racial slur. Does it have the same impact as the N word? Of course not. But it is 100% a racial slur.

quote:you don't really believe that... No matter how many liberals cancel white men on Twitter it has not changed the fact that white men hold the vast majority of influence and power in the United states. 44 of the 45 "Leaders of the free world" have been white men. Is that because no other race or gender has been smart enough to lead? We both know the answer is no. While there are Caucasian men who have built business empires from the ground up. A nice chunk of white men were born into families that already had generational wealth. If you divided people up by race and gender ( white men with white men, black women with black women etc.) And by % not raw numbers( that way it's fair) determine how much of each group had the most wealth and influence, who would have the most? Now this is not me bashing anyone. I judge people as individuals, but the truth is the truth. The 1% is 82% white.
I'm glad you can agree that white males are the only victims of systemic discrimination in America today.
Let me ask everyone this question. If racism had truly ended the day slavery was abolished( which is obviously a moot point because southern slave owners didn't free their slaves in till 2 years after) and black people were given the 40 acres and a mule they were promised or on a smaller not allowed to vote much earlier( un-obstructed) or had a greater chance of being approved for loans from white owned banks early on. Do you believe black people would be in a much better position today???
