Saban era Bama-LSU was a rivalry because they hated Saban with the passion of an ex wife and it often determined the SEC West.

In the 10 seasons from 2011 to 2019, it was a top 5 November matchup 6 times. I think in the years Saban coached at Alabama, the two teams meet with one or fewer losses between them 7 times. It's been a top ten matchup 11 times since 2000.
Of course tv is going to play that up that late in the season.

Watching Any Given Saturday though proves how much it means to LSU. Whit Weeks himself said Bama is LSU’s biggest rival lmao. Then BK’s pregame speech leading into 42-13 was hilarious

I could not have cared less before joining this site, and the majority of my family/friends who are 'Bama grads never talked about LSU with the sort of vitriol we reserve for rocky slop and the barn.
I wonder if Tulane had remained in the SEC, would you guys have still tried to glom onto 'Bama to try and force a rivalry into existence?
