Who appointed you boss? I talk about what I chose to talk about. I know how nervous Georgia is making you Gumps but get a grip.

This is why tRant sucks.

I know when I think of Alabama I think prestigious, and definitely not dirt roads, single wides, and domestic abuse.
And for the record. I love Alabama. I’ve got a cattle farm over there. And I like dirt roads and rednecks. But most people don’t.

If we’re honest, Ed O and Brandy would fit culturally in Tuscaloosa perfectly. Not quite a the coonass environment but not exactly urbane either.

That is not remotely how I would characterize the time period from 1983-2006. Inconsistent? Sure. But it still saw multiple conference titles and a national championship.

Things must have really changed in the past month. I drove thru Bama about a month ago and all I saw was rusty single wides with faded Bama flags flapping in the breeze

Why even offer up Shoeman when you know they would want Smart. Anyhow, Kirby ain't leaving for a long while. Something like 10+ years.
Bama should go the NFL route. It slim pickings on the college level. Joe Brady, Ken Dorsey are the young ones that excite the recruits.

quote:The new age bamas fans (Saban drug in) can't handle it like the post Bryant fans. They would tear the campus down and threaten to kill every player and everyone in the athletic department. They aren't going to stand for stretched out success like from Bryant to Saban.

Smart has way too many roots in Georgia, but he has so much history in Alabama being born there. I think Alabama's new coach will be Matt Rhule.

It really is you dumbass.

Nobody would want to follow into a pressure cooker and a shadow after Saban.

Bama will be looking at 54 yr old UGA alumni and most successful coach of all time, who’s by the way from Georgia and married to a UGA Alumn. Who’s family runs so deep at UGA. I’m sure he will want to leave and follow Saban when he’s already built his own thing in Athens. That makes perfect sense!
Never, never argue against Bama delusion. It’s pointless

Saban knows how to trigger any coach. Just ask Jimbo

When I posted this on the scoreboard, have no idea how it got on the main board this morning.. it was just a quick thought about how similar the situation looked.. with Smart a UGA alumn learning under Saban at Bama.. and. Schumann an Alabama alumn learning under Smart at UGA. I just thought it was curious. Never thought it would be that big of a deal to have such a small passing thought.
It was just speculation, IF and it’s a mighty big IF. Saban works the full 8 and Schumann stays at UGA and is patient like Smart was at Alabama, he would be 40 then.

Whoever said no majorly established coach is going to want to follow Saban is correct. There will be an interregnum period, no doubt, and Bama fans might as well start preparing themselves for it. They can be pleasantly surprised if it turns out better than expected.
However, as others have eluded to, the NIL and even more so the portal and the rise of the streaming services, are the major issues working against Bama, and pretty much all other big college football outfits. Saban was able to take advantage of a donor base and school that had no problem just completely ignoring every NCAA rule with athletes who had no good recourse to get out.
I see Bama fans complaining about the culture not being what it was, but truly what has changed is that athletes aren't indentured servants to the school anymore. They don't have to spend a year or more in Purgatory to get out of their "contract". So schools can't stack depth like they could. Every school can legally pay recruits, no matter what is said officially. And even tiny schools can be watched all over the country every Saturday via streaming services.
Of course, this means UGA won't dominate either, and I am OK with this. While everyone talks about about how the changes will ruin college football, I think they were necessary to bring back some parity which made it great to begin with.
