Maybe, maybe not, but I think assuming he is going to retire at UGA, is a bad assumption, and extremely unlikely.

Here we go.All that means Jack Squat in
2022.Technically Michigan is a "more prestigious job" than UGA.You think Kirby would leave for that job?

You do know that Vince Dooley spent 40 years at UGA don’t you? 25 as HC and another 15 as AD. We don’t change coaches when we go thru a rough patch like the Gators, Vols and Aubies. Coaches don’t leave us. They either retire or are fired after a decent amount of time to prove themselves. Or in Richts case - move from an average of 10 wins a year for 15 years to even better years

No, you are trying to move them back 15 years, actually. I'm not saying Bama was the number one job 15 years ago. I am saying it is now. So is every other major news source's list I have seen, except for Athlon, who says it is UGA.

No one wants to follow a legend. It normally doesn’t work out very well. And Grandpaw Nick is a legend.

The primary target would be Smart.
Smart has nothing to gain by going to Bama. He's already won a NC at UGA and an idol and Bama fans have raised the bar to near impossible to keep a coach for 3 or 4 years.

The Bear ruined Bama for years and Saban has killed it. The NIL has destroyed the chance of another coach coming in and pulling off a Saban to swoop in an buy (before you get all defensive, all the top players aren't going to fall over themselves to come to a school that sucked and hasn't hasn't been relevant in football for 15+ year and on probation) all the south's recruits in one or 2 years.

There is no coach that is going to come in and create enough buzz after Saban leaving to keep it up. Saban is already losing his grip as it is.

There really isn't a "top job" because everyone values different things but I would say Alabama isn't even top 3 in the conference right now, mostly due to expectations.

UGA fired Richt who averaged like 10 wins/year because he couldn't take you to Bama's level and then hired Smart to copy Bama. And he has won a Championship. and I think they were right to fire him if they think he can do better. But it's amusing to me that you guys think one Championship puts UGA's program on Bama's level. Soon you guys will learn that winning a nattie, is not nearly as hard as winning multiple ones and your program is still lagging behind Bama in many ways.

The difference historically between Georgia and Bama is 2 coaches? Bama has had more than 2 great coaches and the difference ls can’t be dismissed that easily. There is an incredibly vast difference historically between the two that would require paragraphs to cover not sentences.

Yes, the fundamental difference between AL and UGA has been the 2 great coaches AL had and that UGA has never had (Kirby, TBD)

We’ve both had good coaches: Richt, Butts, Dooley, & Woodruff. A few SECC and NC’s. As has Alabama: Wade, Thomas, and Stallings. But none of those GA or AL coaches are Saban or Bryant.

No one has said winning a Natty is easy. I know it’s not. But Georgia has a very good chance. Bamas chances are not quite as good, judging from what we are currently seeing. Georgia may or not repeat this year but as long as they give it their best I’m satisfied. NCs are coming. Of that I have no doubt. Just not sure if it will be this season or not but so far so good. As for Richts firing. He had 15 years and they were great years but there was no NC. No one wanted to let him go but it was the right thing to do and now know it worked out well. Richt lives in Athens and supports Georgia as do all Georgias former coaches. Once you fall in love with Georgia and Athens you don’t leave.

Well OP started this thread, wanting to talk about Bama's future, and asked about a man grossly underqualified for the job, a little insulting, actually. So I hijacked his thread with a more interesting topic, just to see if it would trigger UGA fans. And once again the Dawgs did not disappoint. I honestly do believe Smart would jump at the Bama job, if it were offered to him.

I will be interested in following Schumann’s career but Alabama made the mistake of putting a priority on being an “Alabama man” too many times in the past. Just hire the best qualified candidate when the time comes. If he’s off the Saban tree or an Alabama guy, that’s just a plus.

Kirby is never voluntarily leaving UGA for another college football program. Winning at Georgia is easier than winning at Alabama.

Sure there is. A more established football tradition and no nfl teams in a state, making him the top dog. Coaching a real blue blood, not just some Johnny come lately, he may or may not be able to sustain. History says UGA can not sustain but Bama can.

Is it the fact that Alabama has less than half the population or less than 1/3 the money of Georgia that makes it more sustainable? Or is it the fewer athletes the state produces?

Georgia became a national power when they decided to.
