He was offered the chance to come back as DC under CMR and didn't take it.His UGA "roots" didn't mean much then.

There was a bit of animosity between he and Richt, and Saban, if I remember correctly, advised Kirby not to leave for Georgia in a lateral move.
I think Saban possibly told Kirby that it made no sense to go help save the job of a man that he could replace in a few years....but that part is just my thought.

Smart will replace Saban.

So because he didn’t want to make a lateral move into a less stable situation, that means he and his wife don’t feel a special affinity for UGA?

If you think being an alum of that school prevents them from leaving for another school you are fooling yourself.
I can’t really think of any head coaches who left their alma mater for another SEC school, especially one with a National Championship

LOL.
Who said that? I said their UGA "roots"
obviously wasn't a factor in taking or not taking the job at the time and ultimately used the offer as a leverage to make more money...just like any other coach.

Isn’t the ‘Kirby Tree’ actually nothing more than the Saban tree from his time in Baton Rouge? You Dawg fans are really about to get over your skis with this ‘Kirby is God’ delusion.

I can't believe the Bammers want even want Kirby.
I thought everyone was glad Kirby was gone because his defenses regressed towards the end of his time at BAMA. And he can't win a big game.

Of course they do. He toppled their dynasty after 13 years. Who wouldn’t want the reigning champ who’s 46 years old. They’ll be licking his cleats for the next 2 decades.

Sam Pittman? Dan Lanning?
"Coaching tree" or not the fact is Kirby has an excellent eye for coaching
talent and 4 of his assistants have become P5 HC's and Todd Monken will be the 5th if you chooses to stay in CFB

Not according to Nick Saban whose said UGA is the best job in CFB. 8th largest state in country. 3-4th best in state talent No in state competition for talent Elite facilities Top50 school nationally Top 5 college town All of those except facilities Alabama lacks. The difference in UGA and Alabama historically are two elite coaches and a 100% commitment to winning. UGA has had three good coaches historically but never a great coach and never a 100% commitment to winning. Well they are committed now and they may just have their great coach.
Blah, blah, blah……Stacey Abraham’s, Atlanta and the 2020 election

Sure there is. A more established football tradition and no nfl teams in a state, making him the top dog. Coaching a real blue blood, not just some Johnny come lately, he may or may not be able to sustain. History says UGA can not sustain but Bama can.

Kirby is killing it at Georgia and he's an alum. Why would he leave for Bama? Georgia's pockets are as deep as Bama's, so that isn't it.

You should worry about smart. He's gonna get that nfl coaching bug that every successful college coach eventually gets. And when he does that, washes out, guess where he's gonna come back to cause our old national championship winning coach will finally be retiring and we will be in need of another national championship winning coach to replace him

It's delusional homerism, Alabama fans think Alabama is the best job in the country and it simply isn't, it's why RichRod and Spurrier turned them down the last go around.
Georgia can offer Kirby anything that Alabama can, there's no advantage to leaving Georgia for Alabama.
And that doesn't even account for the fact that Kirby is a Georgia native and alum.
