re: What will SEC Shorts be tomorrow?
Posted by PassingThrough on 12/3/23 at 11:55 pm
Hopefully they go with full on truth telling like they did for 2020 playoffs. That was their best.
While I know I certainly won’t be missed here, I am just going to say my goodbyes. The best thing I ever did was cutting off CFB cold turkey about 10 years ago. I admit I got sucked back in around 2020, but lord, this relationship is toxic as shite.
Even while experiencing the joys of UGA winning the Natties and getting to cheer on some of my favorite players ever in UGA uniforms, I knew the program was a big part of the obscenity CFB has become.
The schools suck their fans dry and then make the gameday experience even more difficult to enjoy and more expensive by partnering up with ticket brokers.
The TV guys just care about ratings and AD buys. Betting has taken over everything, and it is just a matter of time before the depth of how much fixing is going on at the player (and likely coaching) level comes to light.
The conferences just care about more money for ever more ridiculous dick-measuring contests and in the meantime, throw the rivalries that made their fans passionate into the oncoming traffic.
The coaches just care about getting ever more extravagant contracts and even more ridiculous coach buyouts.
It is embarrassing to me that I only finally reached my decision to turn my back on CFB today when everyone just so brazenly declared what a farce it is without even the decency to be ashamed. It has certainly been an obvious deus ex machina for awhile.
All I can do is quit being a consumer that helps fund this BS, so I did today.
Goodbye.

Argument holds zero weight. Georgia would destroy Washington. They’re still in.
I watched this UGA team all season long. They would absolutely struggle to beat this Washington team. No one appears to be more delusional then inside the SEC. The teams this year were not great.

BE HONEST!!
The playoffs are about the BEST four teams in the country.
We're getting ready to separate the idiots and liars from the rest of the board!
But they aren't playing this Saturday. The next games are a month away- a month of getting players healthy or solidifying game plans with back up options. And a month could mean other players from any of the teams could be hurt as well.

I do. I’d be a little pissed going 29-0 the last two seasons, back to back national champions, going for the 3 peat, dropping ONE game in 29 to a really good Bama team, then getting left out of the 4 team playoff knowing that you’d probably be favored against any of the other 3 teams.
12 team playoff can’t get here soon enough.
I'm a fan, and I don't. This team simply wasn't good enough and lost their spot on the field.
That being said, Bama might get a rude awakening as well because this UGA team is not as good at this point in time as the talking heads are giving it credit for, and I think if Bama had improved so much over the course of the year, they would have beaten UGA by more last night and not played teams like Arkansas and TAMU so close.
I think Washington is very underrated because people are forgetting they had plenty of top players hurting in the middle of the season. The month interlude will help them a lot. They also have a good run game. I also think no other conference refs are going to let Bama get away with being as handsy as SEC refs will. Both teams's DBs last night where getting away with a lot of questionable DPIs. Not to mention, no other conference that is likely to ref that game are going to be particularly sympathetic to SEC to begin with.
re: Bama deserved it too but

Thus. Also, who’s to say that given 4 weeks to prepare an offense that caters to the backup QB and more practice reps, they wouldn’t be enough along with a stout defense? Not to mention they beat a team on the road with a backup QB who had already beat one ranked team as well as almost beating another. This is all corporate BS, including the Rose Bowl likely pushing hard for it. May everyone involved feel equal pain they just caused the FSU team. Hell I don’t even like FSU.
re: Why isn’t Georgia in?

Not this version of Georgia team.

How many did Ladd score ?
I guess none, but who do you think came out of that game with more respect? I am not sure whether Ladd will make it in the league with mounting injuries, but I am guessing plenty of good organizations will be willing to give him a chance.
Burton will get his chance as well, but I am not sure he has enough athletic talent to negate being a headcase for long. He obviously hasn’t learned from previous mistakes.
re: Playoff without Bama, UGA, and OSU sounds glorious
Posted by PassingThrough on 12/3/23 at 10:58 am
This, having teams from West, SW, Upper Midwest and SE is actually a good draw for country interest, especially with 3 well known nationally college brands and 1 with a strong fan base and some history.
re: Looks like OU will get final NY6 spot over Ole Miss

Yep, it means there are already 2 SEC teams in NY6 bowls….

It is always interesting to get to study the genus Bamafan in its natural habitat.
re: ESPN in full meltdown over CFP projections

Any poll that had 5 SEC teams as a top 20 or so is proof of the bias. The conference was really down this year, leading to a few decent teams getting more wins than they would have in a better year. The proof is in the OOC games.
re: Georgia upgraded at QB and returned the best CFB TE ever and blew it
Posted by PassingThrough on 12/3/23 at 10:19 am
The biggest difference, by far. Beck is terrified of screwing up so he is overly cautious and checks down or gets tunnel vision, whereas Bennett is a very instinctual player with the consequences be damned. And yes, this offense really does need a QB with agility and comfort rolling out to be at its best.
re: UT Martin, Ball St, UAB, Ga Tech
Posted by PassingThrough on 12/3/23 at 10:02 am
The last part is the true bias in all this. The SEC doesn’t have any great teams this year, and really only a couple of good teams. The rest are average at best.

Sorry dudes. Was at a holiday party last night and enjoying a sleep in this morning.
Sucks they lost, but in all honesty, such is life. Move on to next episode.

would you be willing to bet your paycheck georgia romps by 25 or more? The Rant wants to know.
25+ would be a pretty out-there bet, mainly because UGA does not have a shutdown defense this year. I do think UGA will score quite a bit, even though Bama has a decent defense. I just think the UGA defense will like;y give up between 20-30 points.

God, I love this series- books and show. I really hope he continues to have great ideas for furthering the book series, though I have liked his other books out of this series as well, especially when they link up with collateral characters.

Do think this. We've had 5-6 different guys make impactful plays in various games. Hale (OM), Bond (Aub, A&M, TN), Burton (Auburn, A&M, TN), Prentice (UK, ARK, TX), Law (LSU) have all had games where they made multiple huge plays. We don't like the depth because they have a huge volume of stats, we like it because they've all proven they can make plays when their number is called.
Hmm, sounds like somebody out West took a page from Monken’s book.

That was a weird game. Alabama absolutely dominated the first 40 minutes of the game before hanging on for dear life for a somewhat comfortable win.
I was there in the stands. As I recall, UGA had about 10 penalties called while Bama had none until second half, and then were given a couple to make it look better. That was still in Penn Wagers revenge period post 2007 endzone party. The rest of 2007 and all 2008 was just a blur of yellow flags raining down on the dogs. ?????? still worth it.
I am not. Bring them out this Saturday, except apparently UGA is away. The only jerseys I detest are the ones they wore against Boise State. Those were arse.

There is a safe way to do it. Dartmouth has been doing it for just as long and continues to do it. And once you reach the “big arse” stage of a bonfire, then it is impressive no matter what. That heat hits you hundred feet away from it, and the blaze is enough to make any pyro smile.

Yet, you just threw out teams from the deepest conference this year because it is “dead”
