College football has obviously changed, and isn’t the same sport we all fell in love with, but I still get that old school feel with college baseball. I love college baseball. I’m sure it’s going to change with NIL, but hopefully not at the same magnitude that football has.

Keep dreaming. State returns 7 of 9 everyday players an all American closer top 5 recruiting class and lots of guys who pitched in Omaha.

Surely you don't really believe that?
Football was close before NIL gates swung open and there were actual transfer rules in place. Now it's not even a competition. Basketball's one and done rule is a joke and makes it near impossible to attach yourself to a team while simultaneously tanking the overall product on the court. Baseball is the purest major college sport left.

My SEC Standings predictions:

WEST:
1. Arkansas
2. Mississippi State
3. LSU
4. Texas A&M
5. Ole Miss
6. Auburn
7. Alabama

Don’t want it. I posted our 2022 Baseball season thread on our board the other day and stated today that I want no part of anything #1 and I want at least 2 series losses this year.

Also note this CWS schedule change this season, which is great.

quote:

2022 MCWS FORMAT CHANGE Beginning this year, the NCAA Men’s College World Series will revert to the format that was used from 2003-2007. Competition begins on Friday, June 17 and the best-of-three finals will start the second weekend, on Saturday, June 25.

This is great news! Always wondered why they went away from this schedule.

Gives fans two weekends to attend. Especially championship series. I’m sure attendance will be up a bit this year.

I agree that starting on Friday is better.
Also teams will have to be more judicious with their pitching as there will be a less number of days for the number of games played.

I was just glancing back at some CWS history.
In 1952, Holy Cross defeated Missouri for the CWS championship. Poor Missouri. A small Catholic college from Massachusetts beat Missouri for all the marbles.

But in fairness to Mizzou, Holy Cross has been to four CWS’s and has a pretty good baseball program.

Plus we all know that there are many small colleges around the country that have great college baseball programs and many of them can play with the big boys (and used to beat them regularly back in the day).

Here in Mississippi, Delta State and William Carey are two that come to mind that are in that category.

If we get to Omaha, maybe the China virus will take out the hot team (like an NC State) in Omaha and we can skate our way to a natty too, just like State.

or maybe catch routine fly balls, then you can win one too.

This is the truth. I have been enjoying baseball more every year because of it. It's the only one left that doesn't feel like a pro sport.

I'm right there with you. I haven't missed a Rebal beisbol game in about three four seasons (either on TV or in-person). There is this feel to an SEC beisbol game that's unmistakable and not easily replicated. It's a wonderful thing. We are very fortunate to play in a conference that cares about America's pasttime.

Bats are experienced and capable of pop. We aren’t a gorilla ball team but middle of our order should be plenty capable to notch extra bases when needed. What I hope to see is that, with that experience, we draw a lot walks.

Defense should be stellar; that’s been a hallmark under Stricklin and everyone returns.

Only guys we lost to the draft from last year were Ryan Webb and Ben Harris (our Friday starter and our closer). Everyone else returns from a team that played virtually our entire freshman class with the COVID year including two starting arms from season ending injury (Childers and Brown) and transfers from Miss St (Rokose) and Florida (Acton)

What we probably lack is that front end high draft pick. We’ve got a lot of good to really good but no elite guys (not at this moment anyway; have some rising sophomores with that potential but that’s all it is). I wouldn’t pick us to win the conference and maybe not even the East. But I expect us to host a regional, even if not as a national seed

Texas and OU joining will make SEC baseball unbelievably fun to watch.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is true.

I wouldn't mind so much if they weren't so insufferable (I know, we are too).

OU has a fine baseball history. They've made the CWS 10+ times and won the whole thing in 1994 too. OU has been a consistent tournament team since the 1970s.

History? Sure. But what are they now? Since 2013 they've been nothing. 2 regional trips, both quick exits. 38 wins in their best season. Usually around the low 30s in wins. Last year they were sub .500. Their biggest rival has lapped them. On and off the field. When they get here, they'll quickly go to the bottom of the standings.
