Yea he was great. So was their whole DL and that was a game we didn’t necessarily dominate.

2001 Miami is the most overrated team in CFB history. 4th and 5th string players that barely saw the field in 2001 going on to have hall of fame NFL careers doesn't mean jack shite.

Been my take on them for a very long time.

LSU beat the following currently rostered NFL QBs in 2019 as well:

Sam Ehlinger
Jordan Love
Bo Nix

Tua
Jalen Hurts
Trevor Lawrence

Jalen, Trevor, and Love are all top 10-15 QBs too, with Nix in the top 20.

Who was the best QB that Miami had to beat? Chris Rix? Eric Crouch?

Group of great individual players doesn’t equal great team. I remember that team struggling several times to win that season. I know they didn’t see any team with the offense of 2019 LSU. Although 2019 Bama nearly beat that LSU team. 2020 Bama >>>2019 Bama. So I’d say 2020 Bama would beat both of them

Two completely different eras of football. There would be no way to know lol. I would much rather watch 2019 LSU play 2018 Clemson or 2013 FSU

Down twenty points at halftime, and never had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead in the 4th quarter equates to "nearly beat that LSU team." Interesting. Though in fairness Alabama was closer than just about anyone else.

If Tua hadn’t have gotten hurt vs Miss St, it would’ve been even closer. 5 point win= close especially with that 2019 Bama offense. We’re not talking a 21-0 type game vs 2011 LSU offense

Buddy, Alabama had exactly 2 possessions in which they could have taken a lead in that game - the very first drive of the game, when Joe Burrow had yet to take the field, and a single drive in the second quarter.

LSU allowed Alabama to make that score look respectable because you couldn't stop Burrow.

Miami 2001 is arguably the most talented team of all time, but I'm the 2019 LSU's schedule was 10x tougher. Miami only faced one team during the regular season with less than 4 losses (Syracuse) and that was when they only played 11 games. The highest ranked team they beat in the final poll was 2-loss, 8th ranked Nebraska. Also, Miami almost lost to Boston College and a Virginia Tech in the 2nd half of the season.

Yes, Miami had an awesome D and only gave up 9.4 PPG. However, LSU beat the #1 ranked scoring D twice in 2019. Georgia was giving up just 10.4 PPG before they played LSU and the most they allowed all year in regulation was 17 points. Miami's D didn't even accomplish that. LSU scored 37 on Georgia in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game. Clemson also had the #1 scoring D in the nation when LSU played them in the NC. They were giving up 11.5 PPG through 14 games. LSU scored 42 on them with 620+ yards of offense and kneeled on the ball inside the Clemson 5 to end the game

The 2019 would absolutely smoke the 2001 Miami team. Eighteen years is a long time in the physical and schematic development of college football. The 2001 Canes played against model T offenses, and only one Top 10 team, nearly losing to VaTech on a wide open, dropped 2 pt conversion pass.
Ken Dorsey vs Joe Burrow in a Joe Brady offense. Fuhgettaboutit

Their OL was a weakness. Most of those guys came back in 2002 and Ohio State's DL ate their lunch. Rhombus and Pasta-Fazouli were slow.

They only allowed 11 sacks all year, but Ohio State had four of those, and countless pressures.

They had to resort to slide blocking in the second half, something they rarely did.

They wouldn’t beat the 2009 Bama team. 14-0 undefeated and 31 NFL’ers.

• First-Round Draft Picks: Mark Ingram II (Heisman Winner), Julio Jones, Rolando McClain, Kareem Jackson, Dont'a Hightower, Mark Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick, Trent Richardson, James Carpenter, D.J. Fluker, and Chance Warmack.
• Other Notable NFL Mainstays: Performance standouts like Eddie Lacy, AJ McCarron, Courtney Upshaw, Terrence Cody, Brandon Deaderick, and Barrett Jones
