71.4% of the first round games are already 3+ possession blowouts. We need to reduce the team count, not increase it.

12 team playoff makes the regular season absolutely meaningless for Bama, Clempson, Ohio State, etc.

Pass.

Not if a bye and home field are in play.

would be healthy for the sport as a whole

I disagree. CFB had two distinct advantages over the NFL, the importance of each and every regular season game, and the intense regional aspect. The Playoffs and open transfer market have pretty much eradicated those and turned CFB into NFL Lite. Why does a 3 or 4 loss team deserve a playoff spot?

The playoffs are inevitably goi g to expand way to much smoke around it. I think the current contract is up in 2025?

So by 2024 I expect it will be announced that it will be 8 or 12 teams.

On that note LSU plays @clemson @uga @alabama in 2025 hahaha

This might slow down the players opting out before the season or during the season.

UGA wasn't beating Bama.

Bama played UGA in 2020 and won 41-24, so no UGA wasn't beating Bama in 2020.

So The finale would be Coastal Carolina vs Alabama?

I was initially hesitant about anything more than a 4 team playoff but I've warmed up considerably to the idea of an 8 team playoff. A 12 team playoff is simply too much and really begins to diminish the regular season imho.

An 8 team playoff would ideally be set up with the following stipulations as follows:

1) The 5 power 5 conference champions WITH THE FOLLOWING STIPULATION - Power 5 conference champs can't have more than 3 overall losses and they must be ranked in the Top 15

2) 1 spot for the highest rateamked non-power 5 team WITH THE FOLLOWING STIPULATION - team must be ranked in the Top 15

3) The next best 3 teams that did not win their conference

The seeding for each team is based strictly on who the best teams are regardless of whether or not they won their conference

The 1st round would be hosted at the home stadiums of the Top 4 seeds while the Final 4 round and the championship game would be played at round robin neutral bowl sites like they currently are.

Lol Bama will be in the playoffs every year. This is not what college football needs.

If that would be the case why didn't anyone not hired the HC of Coastal Carolina? Missouri hired Drinkwitz from Appalachian State and he is doing great so far for Missouri.

This works IF you cancel the conference championship week. Conference championships are useless anyway.

This. Thamel identifies no one that he has talked to, and tries to enforce his opinion by throwing out general numbers and vague job descriptions. He identifies the reason for his story six paragraphs in:
quote:

Officials familiar with the CFP process stress that an entire process still needs to play out. The first step will come in Chicago on July 17 and 18 when the four-member working group, tasked for nearly the past two years with exploring expansion, reports its findings to the CFP management committee. The four-member working group will present the finding to a group made up of SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick and Mountain West commissioner Craig Thompson.

Thamel is an advocate for a 12-team playoff. Fine, but his trumped-up (no pun intended) anonymous sources are bs.

12 teams... use the BCS format and it makes a little more sense.

Just a little more.
