Are there ANY Durkin supporters here? If so, please state your case for a DC who coached a Div I defense to 124th out of 125 teams, and then implied it was his talent. Really? The Rebels had lesser talent than 123 other FBS teams. That's a bit hard to believe. Now this year he has better talent yet they still look lost as gooses, can't put ball carriers down even when they are in position. How bad does it have to get? Am I being unfair?

Our linebackers are actually pretty decent. Campbell and Robinson. Those two play physical ball. We have no push upfront. It’s like a good high school line playing against SEC lines week in and week out.

Practice must be a bloodbath if our second string can’t beat out these weak starters

Absolutely zero pressure on the QB. I almost just spit my beer out. We are so soft aside from a few guys.

We do not have SEC talent on defense.

Everyone is focusing on the passing D. Does no one see the QBs and RBs running through the Rebel D like it's made of paper? The damage isn't being done in the air; it's on the ground. MASSIVE holes everywhere. Almost ZERO outside containment at all. This isn't about how much time the QB has to throw. It's about a defense so horrible coached that they don't stay in position, and when they are in position they can't make the tackle. I guess I'm seeing something no one else is. The Rebel D sucks and it's NOT all about talent.

We stuck our necks out to hire him after the mess at Maryland, and it clearly has not worked out. No there’s not a lot of talent to work with, but his defenses have consistently played to (or below) that talent level. We need someone who can get our defense to punch above its weight

This isn’t working. Lane must realize this.

Where’s Tywone Malone? Where’s Demon Clowney? Where’s Iton? The talent is there.

THIS is precisely my point. I'm by no means claiming Ole Miss has national championship talent - not by any stretch of the imagination. But the idea that Ole Miss possessed the 2nd to the worst defensive talent in 2020 is ludicrous. Where that talent ranked exactly - I have no idea. But this year Durkin has at least "average" talent nationally, IMHO. Perhaps not average to the SEC, but certainly they are more talented than they performance indicates. We all have our own "eye tests," and mine suggests the Ole Miss defense is very poorly coached. WAY too little containment (a coaching thing), very poor tackling (partly a coaching thing), and blown coverages time and gain (a coaching thing). I just see nothing that suggests Durkin is getting the most out of his players.

Our defense just hopes they can strip the ball every play. Kinda like when Luke was coach

Oh...man...what a depressing performance. But I was very encouraged by Lane's comments right after the game. He mentioned "as bad as a defense can play," and he waved off any suggestion that the defense had "stopped" Arkansas. Kiffin acknowledged that it wasn't a "stop" as much as it was poor execution on the Hogs' part. I was really encouraged that Lane seemed completely fed up with how pathetic Durkin's defense is. DJ Durkin has never been a winner, and he left Maryland under a cloud of controversy, yet someone in Oxford thought he would a good hire - even after scores of former players stated that Durkin was a bad person and an even worse coach. Just Google it. It is SO unfair to players like Corral and the Rebs O line to have to score 50+ points just to eek out a victory. If I were advising a 5 star prospect like Arch Manning, for example, I'd say, "young man...whatever you do...do NOT waste your time at a place like Ole Miss where the admins don't care enough to suppport you with the best defensive minds Mississippi money can buy. Go to a school where mediocrity simply isn't accepted."

Trying not to rant. Just trying to express my views in the hopes that others will see the same things and perhaps some momentum can build to force Ole Miss admin to go out there and hire the BEST coaching talent possible. DJ Durkin just ain't it.

I get so fricking angry seeing us try and ankle tackle 90% of the time like we’re some peewee team against NFL players that are afraid of getting run over.

Lane was the guy in Oxford wanting Durkin. I don’t see Lane keeping him around just for the hell of it though.

I totally agree. But at the same time I DO NOT believe it to be a "talent" issue. They have more talent this year than last year, yet their weaknesses are EXACTLY the same! No containment...pathetic tackling...blown coverages....secondary playing WAY too soft. If it were talent we'd see significant differences with notable changes to the lineup. But NOTHING changes.

Today the Hogs had 75 yards to go with 1:20 to go. Was there ANY doubt they'd score??? Not for me, and not for anyone who understands just how bad the D is. How in God's name did AR's receiver get SO open in the back of the endzone for that last TD? THAT is coaching. I truly believe you could give Durkin the same defensive talent Georgia has and they'd end middle of the pack. Time for the man to GO!

I don’t necessarily support him or hate him. I understand why our defense is as bad as it is. We don’t have the numbers to be really good. And even with that we still are greatly improved over last year.

That being said, it’s hard to defend him after today
