Let’s be honest here, the south has a lot of armpits....Shreveport, Little Rock, Mobile, Birmingham, Memphis, Lake Charles, Monroe, Baton Rouge, Biloxi, etc.

It’s just the way it is.

The Mayor name is Chokwe Antar Lumumba. You figure it out. There's a small enclave of white liberals who live in an area called Fondren. Hook up with them.

I had to travel to Jackson several times on business trips. Truly some of the nicest people I have ever met. I actually thought about moving my family down there....but then I remembered my kids like snow days (those are days when it snows so much buses cannot travel safely on the streets so the superintendent cancels school), so we stayed in Missouri.

I ain't saying anyone should move to Jackson, but that's one of the dumbest reasons ever to not move to a place.

If you’re working downtown it’ll be great. Live in Madison or Flowood/Brandon. Disregard the guy that said Pearl. They got the minor league stadium, outlet mall, and Bass Pro but still can’t get the trash away. Reservoir area is good on either side and if you don’t mind a 20 minute drive Gluckstadt is definitely on the come up. The Germantown school district took a lot of the nicer neighborhoods north of Madison.

How bad is it really? A friend has been offered a position in the medical field that will double his current salary. I’m trying to gather any information I can to help him make the right choice.

But right now all I can think about is this guy:

You’re going to Jackson.

Another thing I forgot to mention. North Ridgeland is decent but I wouldn’t send my kids to public school there. Culcha moving in due to apartments while Madison/Gluckstadt won’t allow it

No shite a soy boy from Asheville would end up dead. He’d be like those journalists riding bikes through Afghanistan.

This guy is from Huntsville and works at Erlanger. You keep fricking up and I’m going to leave you behind when the boogaloo pops off.

I have 3 family members who are doctors and all 3 work in Jackson but live in Madison or Brandon / Flowood. If he chooses Flowood then drive up lakeland drive to get as close to Brandon as possible. VERY little crime and police patrol like crazy.

As far as Jackson goes, I used to live there years ago but the city has been taken over by idiots. The city council is a joke and the mayor is a joke. The crime is out of control and it is not safe at all after 9PM. I know of which I speak. I live just outside Flowood and barely into Brandon. Love it here.

Good info in this thread from those familiar with the area. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle like with all things, but a lot more positive responses than I thought I would get. How are the private schools? All parochial?

Also, people that fled to the suburbs are massive pussies and should be ashamed of themselves for giving up ground.

While I dont live there I understand the desire for good schools, maintaining property values, and a city administration that is not utterly corrupt.

I lived in a nice part of Jackson (Woodland Hills/Fondren area) in the early 2000’s. The crime was bad then. My elderly neighbor got beat with a tire iron in her kitchen one morning. If I had to move back, I’d move to Madison or Gluckstadt.
