re: Best SEC rivalry

Besides Auburn being in the same state, Tennessee Bama game has held much more weight on the history of the two programs in games. It is definitely a bigger rivalry than Egg Bowl and Deep South Rivlary. Only two games that could be ahead are the cocktail party and iron bowl. The Texas rivalries aren't really SEC rivalries. Theyve only been played on an SEC schedule one year lol

It depends how you define the actual rivalry. Historical significance as you said or a hatred that doesn’t ever stop. Neighbors that try to one up the other because of their school affiliation. Or when the rivalry starts turning you have beat writers working with attorneys for phone records of a head coach, or boosters hiring a PI in the late 90s to prove the other was cheating, even getting a coach fired from their job after a couple days because he got an assistant job at one of the feeder high schools that churn out D-1 guys. That coach was also a part in creating a message board and doing everything possible to bring down the other school. Many know who I’m referring to. One that not only fans engage in but also the teams regardless of where they came from and turns into at least a few scuffles if not a brawl.

A lot of Ole Miss fans say LSU is their biggest rival, but really it’s because they know it makes MS State fans going into a frenzy. Maybe if they didn’t grow up in the state it may be viewed that way. As far as all out hatred and bitterness the Egg Bowl is probably up there at the top.

About an hour north of Jackson. That’s as close as you’re getting out of me.

I told me 9 year old the other day in the deer blind that we don't have much longer before he is required to be back in the woods with me. I am God awful at calling and turkey hunting in general. Just started a few years back. But I am pumped to get out there and try again this year. My office is in a "downtown" area of a smaller city in the BR area. Someone in that area that has their personal residence recently started raising turkeys at the house as pets, and I walked outside week before last hearing a turkey gobble and the hair stood up on my neck

I can’t wait to take my boy. He’s still got a couple of years but I’ve heard them gobble in the deer stand this year and it’s like my mind flips. Nothing better. Good luck to ya’ll this year

Some pictures from this morning. A month and a half is a long way away. I was actually quite surprised that they were strutting with hens this time of year. In Holmes County, MS. 2 does also feeding with them.

Obviously early but in the little time he’s played and the drive that saved the Georgia game this guy looks a lot like another qb from a few years back.

While they have a lot of combos and alternates, my old high school ripped this one straight from Clemson’s all white away uniforms.
I agree with you on the 3 games you chose as your favorite but obviously for opposite reasons. 2003 for obvious reasons, undefeated in SEC play, etc. This year because of the lead almost the entire game and the missed points in the 1st quarter. It sucks because it looked like Ole Miss was the better team and pulled an Ole Miss. 2014 teams were fairly similar and played a close game and probably had an effect the following week losing to Auburn and getting drilled by Arkansas then TCU in the bowl game

The only one that hasn't really panned out is juice Wells and that's only because he's buried in the depth chart.

Juice Wells is a starter opposite of Tre Harris. While he has had some issues catching the ball, he’s not buried. This is a typical Kiffin team. One guy is going to be the main focus of the offense other than the qb, whether it be Tre Harris, Quinshon Judkins, Elijah Moore, all the way back to Derrick Henry and Amari Cooper. The offense tries to feed one guy over and over and flops when it doesn’t work.

Yep. 3 nights for the Oklahoma weekend a guy got $11k for an air bnb.

The key is can he create defense or will he be another LR clone? He will have good offenses but D is the trick.

Well he did hire a career special teams coordinator as his first DC so

Kiffin was better. A big part of Sark's success came down to having two elite QBs in Tua and Mac Jones.

This. People forget Kiffin had Blake Sims, Jake Coker, and a freshman Jalen Hurts as his quarterbacks

Sorry, you cant follow more than one sport at a time.

What are we following in basketball right now? School hasn’t started, practice hasn’t started, games don’t even start for another 3 months. Early signing days aren’t for another 3 months. So please explain what there is to be following about college basketball in the middle of August.

ETA Is it ACC/SEC Challenge that’s 4 months away that I should be following? I just read all of the matchups. Is that following enough or does more need to be done?

And some people had a year of Matt Luke on this chart... Just saying.

That 2019 4-8 stings on these charts

I don't know that 10-2 necessarily gets them in with that SOS

They’ll start the season in the top 6-7 range. 10-2 absolutely gets them in

It fricking SUCKS that y'all don't have Judkins anymore

Freshman Judkins I agree. Last year’s version that self centered, whiny, and had his own OL not wanting to even pick him up off the field, I’m good. Had 3 more carries in ‘22 than ‘23 while having 409 more yards. Average dropped from 5.7 to 4.3 YPC. Total tds were the same but if you look at the drive summaries for the games, he was getting a lot of 1-3 yard tds as opposed to some of the longer runs as a freshman.

He was still very productive but after the Peach Bowl performance watching how the players were around him, and during the game you could tell something wasn’t right.

I won’t worry about a specific RB with Kiffin as head coach. Ole Miss has finished top 5 in the SEC in rushing every year since he’s been there with last year being the worst at 5th. Prior to that Ole Miss was #1 in 2020, #3 in 2021, and #1 in 2022

We are going to beat you stupid assholes again because you don’t have JD to save you this time

He wasn’t able to save them last year
Pick a year for the Egg Bowl. ‘97 was the best. 2018 was pretty good since it started with AJ Brown and Jonathan Abram with a freshman Matt Corral trying to get in it and have a State player save him from a beating. Multiple players had to leave the game but only ones that had no involvement in it. Refs couldn’t get the players numbers right for either team when they were being ejected
quote:

I mean what's funny about it? Look it up. Since integration Ole Miss and Miss State football are very similar. What's your damn love affair with Ole Miss anyway? I'll give Ole Miss one thing, they are like the Democrats in that they control the narrative and play the social media game to convince fools like you they are something better than what they are, and they do a damn good job of it.

Jesus Christ. Since the newest era started with the 4 team playoff. Ole Miss has been to 4 New Years Six bowls with a 2-2 record. State has been to 1 with a 0-1 record. 10 years of the new format and Ole Miss was on probation with a bowl ban with less scholarships for 3 of those years. Now with the new playoff system it’ll be a bigger difference between Ole Miss and Mississippi State on a national scale. Which is what a super conference wants. The people choosing don’t give a shite about a random egg bowl game here or there, it’ll be about what’s been done on a larger scale.

Like it or not Ole Miss is a more recognizable brand than Mississippi State is
