Mullen went to 3 access bowls in 3 of his 4 years. He won 2 of them. 4th season wasn’t good but he also had a winning percentage better than all but 2 of Florida’s coaches - Spurrier and Meyer. Maybe a lot went on behind the scenes. I’ve heard it was due to his recruiting but he’s never been known as a good recruiter and that was known when he was hired. Instead of letting him attempt to fix the situation after 3 access bowls the previous 3 years, he gets fired.

As Kiffin has gotten older he’s gotten more settled and that’s not a job I think he’d leave for anymore. Not in the NIL era. There are maybe a select 7 or so jobs he would probably take but Florida is not one of them. At Ole Miss everyone from the Chancellor to the fan that saved up to make it to just one game against a G5 are all pulling in the same direction while Florida’s athletic department can’t even get on the same page.

Then they miss Simmons carving up the defense in the 2nd 3rd and 4th quarters.

He carved up Georgia State. He was wildly inconsistent and inaccurate against Kentucky. He will get better, but he’s literally a half of the field qb right now. All the arm talent in the world, but a kid that should be a true freshman right now is what we’ve seen thus far. I’m happy for him that he graduated 2 years earlier and is already a grad at Ole Miss, but he’s also 19 years old ins his first season. Pump the breaks some
Not great. Defense will be good. Simmons is playing like a 1st year starter and mistakes will happen, but he’s not seeing the entire field. Luckily the running game looks to be much improved. OL is average. I can see anywhere from 7-5 to 9-3. This isn’t going to be a playoff caliber team. Next year will be though

re: State vs. Arizona State

State has a chance to win for sure. I only saw a few highlights from Az St game, but honestly had no clue Leavitt had the wheels he does. After looking at the stats from the Southern Miss game it looks like their qb was their leading rusher. State is going to have to contain Leavitt and he’s not one I’d want to get into a shootout with.

Should be a fun game though. I can see it going either way. I don’t know if Az State was vanilla with their schemes against NAU, just don’t know much about them other than the qb is one of the best in the country.

Usually middle of section S or S1
Nice! You beat a private school with about 1500 less students than you. (High school students that is. MRA has a total of around 1400 K3-12th.) MRA has been a very good high school program in recent years, but the talent level is vastly different. That Boston College commit for Ravenwood had over 400 total yards alone. I did see that it was dad vs. son though. Good story line especially with MRA coach Herbert Davis’ health problems in the past 5-6 years. I know it was special for him and his son to go head to head.

Vans has a gunsmith that does do work on just about any gun. The guy they use generally only picks up on Wednesday’s and will bring it back on a Wednesday. It’s not in house and can take a little bit to get it back since he’s doing his drops and pick ups a week at a time.

Abner's is gone man.

It is true the original location in Oxford is no more. They’ve actually closed a few. The only ones I know that are still open are in Brandon, MS and a couple in Memphis. Newk’s and McAllister’s are the only start up chains Oxford is able to claim at this point.

You stay in a hotel on vacations?

Lot of people in this thread suddenly interested in State’s finances. I remember Yancy Porter expressing the same concerns on the new Dudy Noble.

I really don’t want to agree with just about anything Yancy Porter says, but was he wrong in saying that? You haven’t turned a profit in baseball since before it was built. It could be getting better though. 2023 your baseball program lost $2.3 million. 2024 was close to $1 million. We’ll see how the numbers shake out this year

State baseball doesn’t owe money to jack shite. Money poured in to get this deal done. Past players, the most active college fanbase in America, private donors.

You owe money on your stadium. That’s why your baseball program hasn’t turned a profit since it was built. I completely get it’s State’s thing as they were even before LSU with the crowds and stadium. From a financial perspective it is a losing battle. I know you have baseball specific NIL that doesn’t take from football, but while your football isn’t competent, you aren’t making money investing so much in baseball and will never upgrade your football program which is the money maker for all sports, enrollment, exposure, etc. Great hire, I won’t say it isn’t. Absolute best hire you could’ve made. It’s just a lot to invest in a sport that doesn’t bring a ton of exposure.

All while at the same time Ole Miss’ baseball budget/revenue has been higher than State’s along with your president making a point last night to beat Ole Miss. State has done better in the post season, head to head, baseball stadium, and so on but the head of your school still decided he must bring up Ole Miss. It really is a funny thing

The Ole Miss hatred of Tennessee goes way back before Doyle and Fischer.

I’m aware. I also know that most Ole Miss fans consider DVH a whiny bitch and wouldn’t give a shite about Tennessee in baseball if it weren’t for those two taunting us in Oxford after the series win. I would also say the vast majority of Ole Miss fans would consider Arkansas a bigger rivalry in football. Tennessee has never been considered as a rival for Ole Miss in anything. Sure there were times when there was some bad blood like when Steve Kiner had his “Archie Who” and “Mules” interview. Peyton going and Lane’s game in Knoxville a few years ago, but Arkansas traditionally has been Ole Miss’ 3rd rival behind State and LSU in all sports, maybe moreso in baseball.
quote:

I am surprised Ole Miss fans would pull against a fellow charter school. What’s the deal?

Liam Doyle and Andrew Fischer are the reasons for the outcome of the poll. Most wanted to try to make a run at Vitello when Bianco was let go or retired, not that he’d necessarily come, but that’s beside the point. If it was typical Tennessee without two of their best being Ole Miss transfers that poll looks a lot different
I agree with Chase on the part that Arkansas has been a huge baseball rivalry. Tennessee’s team has been a bunch of cocky assholes for a few years, but if Doyle and Fischer didn’t transfer there and become their best two players this season, I would expect a much different polling result. Stings Ole Miss fans because they left and had a shite ton of success. All American success really

Can Ole Miss overcome the fact that its a literal shithole dumpster program and win a tourney game

Yikes
quote:

Ole Miss has been consistently good under Coach Bianco and I never understood why so many want to run him out of town.

Because once you win the title that’s all anyone cares about. Getting back to Omaha and getting another. The Super Regionals and Omaha trip before was fine, but now they know it can be done. Bianco has saved himself this year regardless of if we get swept by OU. He’ll have them at a 2 seed or even if the season falls apart, a 3 seed no one wants to see in their bracket.

Besides Auburn being in the same state, Tennessee Bama game has held much more weight on the history of the two programs in games. It is definitely a bigger rivalry than Egg Bowl and Deep South Rivlary. Only two games that could be ahead are the cocktail party and iron bowl. The Texas rivalries aren't really SEC rivalries. Theyve only been played on an SEC schedule one year lol

It depends how you define the actual rivalry. Historical significance as you said or a hatred that doesn’t ever stop. Neighbors that try to one up the other because of their school affiliation. Or when the rivalry starts turning you have beat writers working with attorneys for phone records of a head coach, or boosters hiring a PI in the late 90s to prove the other was cheating, even getting a coach fired from their job after a couple days because he got an assistant job at one of the feeder high schools that churn out D-1 guys. That coach was also a part in creating a message board and doing everything possible to bring down the other school. Many know who I’m referring to. One that not only fans engage in but also the teams regardless of where they came from and turns into at least a few scuffles if not a brawl.

A lot of Ole Miss fans say LSU is their biggest rival, but really it’s because they know it makes MS State fans going into a frenzy. Maybe if they didn’t grow up in the state it may be viewed that way. As far as all out hatred and bitterness the Egg Bowl is probably up there at the top.

About an hour north of Jackson. That’s as close as you’re getting out of me.

I told me 9 year old the other day in the deer blind that we don't have much longer before he is required to be back in the woods with me. I am God awful at calling and turkey hunting in general. Just started a few years back. But I am pumped to get out there and try again this year. My office is in a "downtown" area of a smaller city in the BR area. Someone in that area that has their personal residence recently started raising turkeys at the house as pets, and I walked outside week before last hearing a turkey gobble and the hair stood up on my neck

I can’t wait to take my boy. He’s still got a couple of years but I’ve heard them gobble in the deer stand this year and it’s like my mind flips. Nothing better. Good luck to ya’ll this year

Some pictures from this morning. A month and a half is a long way away. I was actually quite surprised that they were strutting with hens this time of year. In Holmes County, MS. 2 does also feeding with them.
