So, today I go in to renew my Business membership at Sam's Club. And the lady looks me up and says:

Clerk: Renewal is $100.

Me: I thought it was $45?

Clerk: Not for Business renewals. They're $100.

Me: OK.

The Clerk takes my picture, and hands me a new card. Then beckons me over to the register where I swipe my cc. As I'm waiting for it to go through, I look down on the screen and it says:

Basic Business Membership: $45
Enhanced Membership: $55
Total: $100

Me: I don't want the Enhanced. What's that?

Clerk: That allows you all sorts of benefits. Like being able to get into the store early. Plus, I was going to give you a free $20 gift certificate.

Me: I want the $45 membership. The one you told me wasn't available.

Clerk: I've already rung you up,

Me: Then bring your Manager over here.

Clerk: (Rolling Eyes) Fine.

Rings me up for $45 and I roll out of there. Temperature 105 and rising.

Upselling is one thing. But the bitch was hardcore dishonest. Sam Walton had a great reputation as a straight up guy. He'd be rolling in his grave.

I hate when they try and pull shite like that. I think her punishment should be having to work at Sam's.

My membership is up in June and I'm not renewing. I've had enough of walfart.

Costco is better, IMO.

Costco premium membership is actually good, if you go there often. They give you 2% back on almost all purchases. So it's worth it if you go there often.

All we have is Sam's here.

But we have HEBs so no need for Costco, whole foods, or anything.

I've used both. Costco was less dreary inside, but there's not too much difference I noticed otherwise. I still use Sam's but not Costco, just because of the distance from home.

Nobody ever tried to scam me for membership at either, though. YMMV, obviously.

I have memberships at both, and both are good at what they do.

Comcast tried a very similar trick with me except it was over the phone and an indian guy i could barely understand. I was persistent as well and eventually what i signed up for was available when i threatened to cancel.

Have a membership to both and like Costco a lot more. I think they do good on their gas prices also. If y'all are getting one id definitely recommend it.

We have memberships to both and shop both a lot. Overall, there is virtually no difference but there are areas where one shines over the other.

For frozen foods, particularly large volume items it is Sam's all the way. Better selection and better prices. For fruits and veggies, Costco's cold room all the way.

Electronics goes to Costco because of the extra tech support they throw in, but Sam's has a better selection and prices on everyday items and supplies.

For clothes, they usually carry the same items from the same vendors so it is just a matter of who has the best sale running.

We have both in Lexington and I shop both. I think Costco is a bit more upscale than Sam's. Both are great for bargain hunting.
