I'm a caregiver right now for my mom. She has lung cancer and has trouble getting around some. My entire family is back in WV 7 hours away. Honestly, it's a lot. But I'm glad I brought her here to VA as I feel strongly she has gotten better medical care here than she would have in WV. She has lived with me now for about 4 years. During that time there's been numerous nights I've had to call 911 or take her to the ER for various reasons. She had respiratory failure in October 2024, and I thought I was going to lose her. It's a difficult thing knowing something could happen at any moment, but we make the best of it as much as we can.

Edit to add: I lost my dad in April 2024 from dementia. It was absolutely fricking brutal watching him go through that. He had went into a care facility in February 2024 and didn't get great care IMO. It still burns me up to think about it.

I live in the Virginia Beach area now. Lived here about 4 years. Beaches are OK, I prefer Sandbridge or Chics Beach, I avoid the touristy oceanfront area as much as possible, though the new concert venue there (The Dome) is nice. Also an easy drive down to OBX for a day or overnight trip, same with DC.

Winter weather can be hit or miss. It can be 30 or 60 degrees pretty much any given day. Last winter, we got 15 inches of snow here during a storm. This year? The most we got was maybe 2-3 inches from a storm and it all melted same day or overnight. Virginia is kind of all over the place with weather. I've experienced tropical storms, earthquakes, tornados and snowstorms here

Overall I like it, but I'd love to move closer to the mountains.

My biggest negatives here are the GD personal property taxes on vehicles that they make you pay here and the politics are all over the place. VA also has weird alcohol laws, technically, there are no "bars" in Virginia if I remember correctly.
I work in the Norfolk/VB area. My office was chaos this morning as this news was breaking with people trying to get in touch with loved ones who work at ODU. Glad this scumbag didn't make it
Yeah I have also been experiencing this issue for the past few days
Working Mon + Tues. Off Wednesday through the following Tuesday (12/2). Heading to WV to have Thanksgiving with family and going up to Morgantown on Black Friday to catch Texas Tech-WVU on Saturday
I lost my dad to dementia in April of last year. After seeing what he went through, I definitely understand.

Good luck after this week of course. Should be a good game tomorrow. Yall's new/renovated stadium is looking good.

So does anyone have any leads on who shot him?

No clue.

but I'm just wondering how the hell this person got off this campus without being noticed? There has to be video footage of him running away. Only a matter of time but its wild to me

As the video is panning at 1-2 seconds, look directly ahead onto the roof in the background. Someone is running away
If that is true that is a miracle.
Good lord. That video is awful. I have to agree, that does not look survivable. How the hell did that guy even get close enough to do that on a college campus? How was he not spotted with a gun?
