Miller and Houston would be pushing him for snaps next year.

Joseph is not ready IMO but would he improve in coverage enough to make him a higher pick.

Set the tone with the stuff on 4 and short. Played hard all season. I wish him the best.

I always liked Joseph. Seems like he always got a big hit to turn momentum every game. He also looked like the only guy in defense that gave a damn in the 2017 season.

I always liked Jordans running style. Gonna miss seeing the big guy back there

Same here. I think Pierce will fill that void as our physical back and Perine will be Perine but a year better.

I just hope Jefferson returns since he is our best big play threat. Franks gets his downfield accuracy right, him and Grimes could easily be 1,000 yards WRs in Mullen's system.

I think Joseph should have come back, but I understand going. I've been a stan for him since his Junior year in hs. That was my guy. He flashed, but I don't think he has remotely met his potential (ie. top 10 pick if he put it all together).

Good move for Scarlett. Guy won't go down in the record books, but he's easily the best back we've had since Gilly. One of my favorite RBs since Fred Taylor. Loved those punishing runs where he would not go down.

I stand by what I said:

Joseph needed to desperately work on his coverage. If he's getting projection, then absolutely (and he was), but I think he's a project piece -- a year or two minimum to get the coverage aspect of LB down.

Scarlett is more talented than Gilly. He'll go in the fourth or fifth round and stick, and I bet he'll be a starting RB somewhere in the NFL within a few seasons. His loss won't be too consequential since Mullen likes RBBC anyways, but I'll miss him bouncing off tackles.

Joseph could've benefited from coming back but he'll still get picked, third or fourth round, like I said. He's a project but he has elite potential. If he had come back and worked on his coverage skills and general consistency he could've worked his way up to the first round, but oh well.

Losing Scarlet shouldn’t effect us much . Losing Joseph will hurt more. But it seems like next year will be a rebuilding year.

I am far less worried than I was.

These boys will be ready by August 31st, believe that.

I'm also less worried because the QB position will help the defense more than hurt it next year.

For one: If EJ wins the job, we know the offense will move. A lot. His running threat is really dangerous.

For two: If Franks wins the job, at least he's seemed to evolve and understand that in this offense all he has to do is fall forward and make short passes. His "clock" has greatly improved and he seems to have gotten over his...fetish with trying to be Tom Brady? (Throw downfield more often than not, always look for passes rather than rushes.)

That right there solves a TON of problems. Our defense will still be nasty, albeit young, but I am way, way, WAY less worried about reloading.

You guys are forgetting Davis. He is back next year.

Pern
Davis
Pierce

Nasty, nasty backfield

Agree. I was done with Frank's and his last few games I thought he started to finally get it. He isn't elite. Never will be. But if that Frank's played earlier in the year we would have been very dangerous early on. Still misses a lot but doesn't make mistakes while missing which is better than nothing.

Im a little worried about the OL, units take time to jell, having 4 new guys out there may take a few games for them to find their groove.
DL is a question mark. Z returns but we havent seen much of anyone else so it will be interesting.
Got some good Backers coming in, I think we see Hopper and Diabate on the field sooner than later from what im hearing about them.
The secondary being healthy will be deadly.

On offense, we’ll see how the QB comp goes. I hope either Franks makes a huge stride or EJ tales it and we’re all go with a Mullen system fit.

Granted, it was still against substandard competition.

SCAR wasn't that good.
FCS.
Worst FSU team in 40 years.
Michigan.

However, the difference was completely in the scheme. He didn't light it up vs. Michigan, but you can see how his legs do great damage to teams and open up the offense (as well as his lanes to pass).

Franks will be fine if EJ doesn't pan out, and that's I (over most) could ask for. I'm okay with him going forward as long as he doesn't regress.

Addressing the problem of OL to the rest of the board:

I've seen the OL this year, I'm sold. Hevesy 100% knows what the frick he is doing. In fact, on offense, outside of Mullen, he might have had the greatest upswing. Our pass protection this year was lights out, and even the RBs looked 100% better than last year.

What I worry about is:

DL
LB
WR

in that order.

DL because it's not easy to lose Polite and just plug and play and because we really lack that internal disruptor DT.

LB because we just haven't had an elite LB crew for a while. Last year was decent, terrible in coverage.

WR because I have no idea what it's going to look like right now. We're still missing some really explosive players -- everyone is good, but we don't have that guy that everyone fears.

Toney is almost there, and I've never seen a DB physically "sigh" like I saw vs. SCAR a few weeks ago. As soon as Toney got it, you could tell the Safety was just like: Awww frick.

I'm more worried about depth than I am their talent. We have some good dudes coming in and some other LBs coming back, but we really need another healthy year.

If Diwun is cleared to play, I'd be interested to see where they put him.

My .03 worth: Joseph is a HUGE loss. OLB with speed. The LBing position will have to be stout and if David Reese stays we at least have the MLB that you must have on defense. Secondary is solid and DL is better than what some of you realize...remember that DTs take up space and keep blockers from the second level...so most don't see how they play. Defense Im not as worried about as offense with what is really a new OL.

QB, I fully expect Franks will be the starter the entire year unless injured. He improved 20 X from 2017 and he is growing into that 6'6" frame. If he dedicates himself to summer work outs and film study while also paying frequent visits to the weight room...he will be much better in 2019 and Mullen has done a masterful job of building his confidence. As anything in life if you are relaxed and confident...you will do much better.

RB is a position where we have talent and remember that Clement r/sed. Davis, Perine and Pierce can be a force and make defenses quit.

WR is a position that has to be addressed next year in recruiting...Jacob Copeland hopefully is ready to go,but we are good for now. TE ditto.

If the OL can gell and be powerful blockers in the run game we can have a really good year. We have UK on the road early and then home cooking for a while. UT at home, AU at home, Miamuh opener at Orlando plus a cupcake before we travel to LSU. Vandy at home, UGA in Jax, USC and Mizz on the road. cupcake and the girls school in the Swamp.

I think this falls under the topic of Departing Players.

I did not know this about Chauncey Gardner-Johnson. What a great story!
