It’s awful early to already call OU a failure in the SEC.
Not saying that but taking lumps adds up when at least 3 teams in the conference will have more talent than you on a yearly basis and another 5 will have equal or slightly less. Greatest advantage that OU has is that you could outgun every team you played if you had a bad game. Even if you kept Riley it would be a challenge to sniff 10 wins on a yearly basis in the SEC.
This hire will be crucial for OU's future. It HAS to be right or things will get ugly quickly and it will be much harder to get back off the mat.

Hate to break this to the OU administration but NOT being willing to pay a head coach $10,000,000 probably puts you at 6th in the SEC behind LSU, A&M, Bama, Florida, Auburn and likely what Ole Miss is about to be cornered into paying Lane.

Reliable scoop is that Lincoln Riley taking the staff ans as many recruits as possible with him.
It’s currently being reported, here in OK, that he’s only taking 3 with him.

Riley opposed the move to the SEC. Not being the biggest fish in the pond is going to hurt more than they can possibly imagine. Suspect many in Norman are starting to rethink the hole they let Texas dig them into.

If LSU was actually pursuing Riley, they dodged a huge bullet.

Well he will love LA where no one will even know or care who the duck he is.
Seriously Oklahoma at least we warned you, the truth is we are both better off. Kids always looking for the easy road now a days. We need a hard arse coach you need a coach ready to lead you into SEC. This was a very well planned “frick you “ move, and we unknowingly provided the smoke screen. That’s ok we play USC in the opener in 24. We will get out payback then

Riley is a pussy bitch.

I don’t disagree at all. If this hire gets botched, it’s going to take many, many years for OU to recover. Oklahoma MUST find somebody that knows SEC ball and isn’t afraid of the competition. In the end, I think this will help OU in the long run. Riley’s teams don’t play the way you have to play week in and week out in this conference. We will see who gets hired and what culture can be established. But make no mistake, they must get this right

RILEY was on a downward trend as the Stoops impact on the team faded and it became Riley’s team and QB
2017 played Georgia close in playoff losing in OT...Baker from Stoops
2018 lost to Bama by 10 in playoff....Kylerrr from Stoops
2019 curbstomped by LSU in playoff...Hurts From Riley
2020 did not make the playoffs ...Rattler from Riley
2021 did not make the conference championship game ...Caleb from Riley
And this year the offense was crap....Riley was beyond his expiration date.....

Stoops had to tell the team Riley was leaving he wouldn’t respond to players. Petrino level POS.

Awful timing. Recruiting classes gone, players will transfer, no coach this late in the year. Wow! Smh lol
Stoops handed him a playoff caliber OU team in 2017 with great recruiting classes and he goes and does this.
Brilliant move on his part. He’s been beat by every team that has better recruits than him in the post season and annually loses to 1 team he shouldn’t every single year. Lost 2 games in consecutive seasons after going 11-1/playoffs 3 straight years… he will never be more attractive than he is now. another year at OU of not winning it all and he loses even more luster, while simultaneously this dude knows moving to the SEC is going to be a lot harder to go 11-1 every year. A 3rd of his total losses are from SEC teams in the playoffs lol. He could literally build a monster at USC with 0 competition outside of Oregon in that joke of a conference.
This is just Like a hot 25 year old chick whose with a great/good looking guy but knows deep down she should dump the good situation she is in now so she could snag a richer/better looking guy before her looks start to go downhill. Life is harsh OU.

Nah.
Riley’s a fricking pussy.
Take your lumps and welcome to the SEC. You will be better off letting the pussy go mingle where 8-5 will satisfy the crowd.
OU might be a shite show for a minute…but once you are in the SEC…you’ll be our shite show and will be forced to have a coach who will be better than that pussy.
OU ain’t a fricking 2nd tier program.
Act like it.

Good, realistic post. Playing in the SEC is fun, but it's tough, as my Missouri team found out. But, hey, the Tigers found a way to win a couple of SEC East crowns. Your road will be determined by how the SEC realigns with OU and Tejas coming in. If you're lucky, Bama and Auburn go East, and OU and Tejas will take their place in the West, joined by Missouri, but it's hard to see that happening without Florida and UGA screaming foul! Another, more like scenario has the SEC splitting teams into 4 pods of 4 teams each.

Hilarious. SEC fans will soon hate OU fans more than most

I think all OU fans would agree with this. This is terrible timing as we are about to move to the SEC. Losing all of the recruits (and who knows how many active players) is going to be very tough. God, I hate the transfer portal as I believe most CFB fans do.
In the long run we will be fine as we will always pull our share out of Texas and especially the DFW area. The SEC effect has hurt us the last 10 years and that will dissipate.
In the short and medium run, things are pretty perilous.
