I haven't been able to find a good "expert" opinion about that struggles of our offensive line. I know Owens gets mentioned a lot, but it really seems like the interior of our Oline is a big part of our struggles, especially in the run game. Is it just a lack of them being on the same page? We've recruited well at OL and have an NFL caliber position coach, so it's hard to imagine either of those are the issues. Thoughts?

Owen struggled all night. I think he lost his spot.

Bama’s 4.46 ypc is 10th in the SEC. They’re also 12th in TFLs given up. Of course that factors in sacks but Robinson is 23rd with 4.97 ypc. And it’s not on Robinson since he’s playing well. The OL has improved its run blocking but they’re still not very good.

Do we have a breakdown of production based on the play's direction? I'd bet most of those negative plays come when we run right.

BRob is a poor man's Henry. Making chicken salad out of chicken shite running behind a mediocre OL.

For lack of a RT we are subpar at two spots.

If we could shift Owens back to C and get even average play at RT from Latham or someone I think we are a championship offense.

This, coupled with the fact that Robinson leads the SEC in broken tackles show that the OL is not opening holes on a consistent basis.

I would like to see them run out of the pistol more, to get Robinson and Williams runnning downhill at the handoff vs. moving laterally or not at all when it's in the shotgun.

Did Latham replace him in the game?

the struggles of this o line are glaring. its the fact that we've rode these weaknesses all the way to the by week is whats troubling to me. saban keeps saying we dont have anyone ready to step in? well just how bad are they then! because the right side of this o line gets beat consistently. lets be real here, chris capps would be an upgrade to whats out there right now. smh... i simply cant believe we risk BY9's health just to play upper classmen that have stayed the course. if the young guys had gotten a chance to play, maybe just maybe they'd be past ready by now, smh...

I feel most of the trouble (pass blocking too) is with the right side too but I don’t have the breakdown.

That’s a good comparison for the OL too. If you look up the TFLs given up and YPC through 8 games, the 2015 OL is the closet to how not good the numbers are. And that could’ve been worse had Henry not been as good.

The 2015 line winning the Joe Moore award is the biggest joke. Those guys should have just handed the award to Henry.

I still don't think that we are "struggling" to run the ball though.

NFL caliber position coach

Former NFL coach/not NFL caliber
He's not a good coach.
It's why no one in the NFL tried to hire him after his time at Jacksonville and Buffalo.
We have personnel issues but some of the designed blocking schemes are awful. Like some have said, Owens needs to move back to center and try Latham or someone else at RT.

I have to disagree. Too many times we get behind the chains because a first down run gets tackled in the backfield and gets little to no gain. We've been otherworldly on third down so it's kind of disguised how bad we are on first and second. Part of the reason we're so bad on first and second is the o-line not opening up holes for our runners.

Owens need to move back to center. He’s playing out of position.

I hate our running game right now, we consistently get tackled at the line of scrimmage or run right up the butt of a tackle for 2 yards. Long gone are the days of 4-6 yards every carry.

I’m not sure what your standards for struggling are. They’re in the bottom half in the conference in a lot of things.

They’re definitely struggling by Bama standards. Especially for a team that recruits as well as Bama does. Whether it be looking at PFF’s “advance metrics” or looking at split stats, they’re struggling noticeably compared to any other Bama team. The closest one is 2015 and they faced a lot more stacked boxes because this team is pass heavy.

If you think they can win out, the OL has to play better.

that's the part I don't understand. Did the coaches misjudge on so many linemen or what
