re: Alabama 77 @ Florida 100 Final - ABC

Florida would half their amount of points if these refs would call moving/illegal screens…it’s embarrassing how bad these refs are in letting that go

They have everything they need to repeat if they can get even mediocre play out of their guards.
Unless the entire top 10 gets eliminated from the tournament, their ceiling is the sweet 16. They can’t hang with Zona, Duke, and most teams with a competent front court. Bama does not pose any problems to a team with skilled bigs. Florida is solid, but not a legit national title contender.

A few G League players have recently returned to college basketball due to evolving NCAA rules, notably Thierry Darlan (Santa Clara), London Johnson (Louisville), and Abdullah Ahmed (BYU), with ex-Alabama player Charles Bediako also temporarily reinstated, signaling a new trend of players choosing developmental pro leagues before college, challenging traditional pathways and eligibility norms.
Not to mention you’ve guys like Tyon Grant-Foster who is 25 playing for his 5th team in 8 years, yet there’s hardly been anything negative said about that
College Basketball 20 years or so ago was mediocre at best. The best high school players and many fringe guys went straight to the NBA, meaning you did not have the best players in college. The Bama and Mississippi St. teams that were at the top for several years would get boat raced by nearly every team in the current SEC.
Florida capitalized on recruiting 3 star players and keeping them for several years to build cohesion. Those teams would still do damage, but the overwhelming majority of early aught teams would be awful.

Grubb and Deboer both are in over their head. Its obvious they do not understand big-boy SEC football. Until Deboer leaves, Bama is going to be soft and run stupid finesse offense.
They were literally playing for the conference championship against a team they had already beaten on the road. They got there playing one of the toughest schedules in the country.
You can fault them for lack of adjustments but to suggest they are in over their heads is asinine.

450+ total yards and nearly 400 yards passing for TN. You might want to rethink your Chicken Little line of thinking. It was always going to be a tough game, but they’re no more of a matchup nightmare than UGA or Vandy.

have top seed Ohio State beating Georgia while #2 Indiana defeats Alabama.
Ohio State and Indiana would each have 2 or more losses with either Bama or Georgias schedule.
Both teams are good but have no resume to suggest they are better than any top SEC school right now

I question whether some of yall even watch the games. Talty has shanked one kicked.
He’s not missed inside of 40, right down the pipe on his extra points, and this all in his first year.
This narrative that he is Cade Foster 2.0 is simply silly at this point.

They used the big block letters "Crimson Tide" in the endzone;
Pretty sure it was “ALABAMA” in white letters through the 90s. It was pretty basic and no color background.

Where have they been the last 2 years?
It seems kind of silly for the SEC to suggest Bama and Miss. St should be permanent rivals after not scheduling them for 2 straight years.
For the record, I agree with including them on Bamas permanent opponents. It’s just more SEC front office buffoonery.
re: What’s the issue with the running game?
Posted by SECFan413 on 9/14/25 at 6:56 am to Robot Santa
Judging by the number of free defenders on almost every run, I’d say the run schemes aren’t the greatest.
You’ve got OL and TEs not holding their blocks or getting to the next level too, but there does not seem to be a concerted effort to establish the run game. Rather it appears to just be used as a means to setup the pass at this stage.

Honestly, he was limited before the injury. He's a great shooter, but was never really athleticly gifted. I think some are kind of over-hyping what he was/is.
This is definitely true. He’s a sensational spot up shooter, but his handle is not that great and Bama would be in serious trouble if he was tasked with being a main ball handler in late game situations.

but some of the hype for mid-major transfers has been over the top the past couple years.
Sears, Nelson, Estrada, Wrightsell, Youngblood, and Bruner have all been key pieces, if not the key pieces on teams that won the SEC or made it to the Elite 8 and Final 4.
You could make the argument that it’s been the high major transfers that have disappointed more. Guys like Burnett and Cliff underperformed.

I can't remember which game or the player but Bama did fake an injury this year. Just goes to show you what's going on here now.
Not saying it was OK, but pretty sure it was during a play in which the referees had improperly managed a substitution by the other team.
It seems like this new rule still leaves some wiggle room for teams to take advantage. Hopefully it does crackdown on some of it though.

Well, that’s exactly what they’re getting because they do deserve it… at least from an entertainment standpoint. And that’s what college football is: entertainment. It isn’t just the brand that brings in the cash. It is also having highly talented players that fans can follow on their way to the NFL.
This is what every athlete wants to believe but it just isn’t true.
Ryan Williams cannot transfer to Alabama A&M and expect to receive the same level of exposure or demand. Nico can gladly transfer to Tennessee Tech, and me and the other 20 people who come to the games will love watching him, but his NIL funds from Goodys ain’t flowing in at the same rate as they are from the collective in Knoxville.
The athletes deserve a cut of the revenue but less than 1% can actually make a claim to move the needle on creating actual value for their school. It is generally the school creating the value for 99% of the players.

Jarin Stevenson —-> Donyell Marshall
Jarin is the 2nd coming of Robert Horry- especially Horry in the NBA.
Both are undersized bigs that can guard smaller guys and occasionally use their length against taller guys. Both look like a baby giraffe when they try and drive, and both can knock down 3s.

He’s been solid but really, over Sears and Lewis?
Sears is an incredible guard, but as a pure PG, he is not as formidable. Philon is a better distributor and when Philon gets deep into the lane he’s much craftier than Sears at finishing.
Lewis was fast and maybe more dynamic in the open floor, but Philon is more polished and a better defender.
Lewis on this current team would be awesome to watch though.
If you switch their supporting casts, it could switch people’s opinions.
Personally, I think Philon is incredible and the best PG Bamas had since Sexton. JD unfortunately had to play with less around him. Philon was the much better penetrator. For as athletic as JD was, he struggled to get past defenders.

It’s kind of weird to see a first team all conference team that would lose to every other teams regular starting five.
One big man and 4 pgs doesn’t seem like a typical all conference team.

So you saw the SEC being historically the best conference of all time this year?
Finishing Top 4 in the conference with an expected top 8 tourney seed and being in the Top 10 all season is hardly something to bemoan.
You haven’t watched enough Bama basketball to be so pessimistic with this year. Every coach since Wimp would be clamoring for a huge raise based off this year alone.

They need to learn to play with that enlarged bullseye on their back.
They’ll like be a #1 seed and will face that same pressure in March. Better to learn it now than then.
